Steve Jobs had a passion (激情) for education. He may be gone, but we still have a chance to learn from his courage and innovation (革新). Making Mistakes I think that the main reason why we can’t find proper ways to improve the education system that no longer serves us well is simply fear. Fear of failure. Fear of getting it wrong. Teachers fear that innovation could endanger their jobs. Steve had the attitude we need in education right now. “Sometimes when you create something, you make mistakes. It is best to admit (承认) them and get on with improving your other innovations.” That’s the kind of spirit that we need to have. Motivation (动机) Matters We’ve concentrated (专注于) so much on results that we don’t always reward good motivations. But these things are very important. In our schools, we’ve cared so much about test results that we’ve lost creativity. We don’t reward students for their hard work, and we punish failure. As a result, we lost imagination and found no motivation to try something that has a chance of ending in failure. What Defines (定义) Failure? The company that Steve Jobs started in 1985 after being forced out of Apple shows us how technology could influence educational innovation. In 1985 he started NeXT. The company was providing computers for educational purposes. NeXT wasn’t really financially (经济上) successful. But it may have been ahead of its time. Today, we see what the technology brings into the classroom. Changing Our Model The company sold around 50,000 computers. But that would be missing the point. It was a NeXTcube workstation that encouraged the first web server. It helped in the development of early Internet technology. Truly, Steve Jobs has taught us that results are not the most important things in life. 54. The article tells us making mistakes . A. is always something very bad B. will help us become better people C. is a part of making something new D. will keep us from reaching our dreams 55. We may lose our creativity and imagination if we . A. make a lot of mistakes B. fail to have a right model C. can’t be financially successful D. concentrate too much on results 56. Steve Jobs might agree that . A. a good motivation can lead to a successful result B. we shouldn’t be afraid of failure and it can lead to success C. making money is the only way to judge success D. having a passion is the most important thing for success 57. According to the article, which word can best describe Steve Jobs’ spirit? A. Passion. B. Motivation. C. Innovation. D. Creativity. D The secret in re-remembering is to allow the full power of your memory to flow freely without “trying” to remember any one specific (特定的) thing. I recently sat down to a relaxed and enjoyable dinner with some friends. At the beginning of the meal, a friend told us that his car had just been broken into and his briefcase (公文包) had been stolen. He was frustrated (懊恼的) because his diary and a number of other items (物品) important to him were in the briefcase. He said he could remember only four items that were in his stolen briefcase, that he knew there were many more, that he had to give a full report to the police within two hours, and that the more he tried to remember the more blocked he became. Several of us at the table who were familiar with Memory Principles (规则) then took him through the following exercise: instead of continuing to allow him to think of what he could not remember, we asked him when he had last had his briefcase open. It turned out that it was at the office just before he left work, at which point he suddenly remembered that he had put two important magazine articles in the briefcase. We then asked him when he had last had the briefcase open before leaving home for work. It turned out to have been the night before, and he remembered having put in two more articles as well as a tape recorder, in preparation for the following morning. Finally we asked him to describe the inner (内部的) design of his briefcase, and as he went through a detailed description, he remembered pens, pencils, letters and a number of other items that he had completely “forgotten” before. Within 20 minutes, he remembered 18 additional items. The secret is to “forget about” whatever you are trying to remember and “relive” all experiences that connect in any way with the item you are trying to remember. This method works at once almost in all cases, and takes the form of a created Mind Map around the “missing” center. This memory method, like the others, improves your memory as well as your creativity, and in addition gives you confidence when you realize that, no matter what you have forgotten, there is still a chance to solve any memory mystery (谜团)! 58. Which of the following shows how the man remembered the items according to the passage? full report at the office briefcase inner design full report in the restaurant friends stolen briefcase A. B. stolen briefcase inner design at home at the office stolen briefcase important letters pencils tape recorder C. D. 59. What does the underlined word “relive” mean in the passage? A. go through again B. get out of C. get used to again D. pay attention to 60. What can be the best title for the passage? A. Forgetting — You can never really forget B. Drawing — The better way to remember things C. Re-remembering — Remember what you have forgotten D. Replacing — Forgetting something instead of remembering 七、阅读短文,根据短文内容,从短文后的五个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。(共8分,每小题2分) Think you’re ready to keep a pet at home? Having a dog is a wonderful experience, one that brings lots of fun and keeps from being loneliness. But it also needs lots of attention and responsibility (责任). Before you decide to get a dog, you should prepare yourself and your home. Dogs, especially young ones, need more time and responsibility. While housetraining your dog, plan to take it outside every day. 61 Don’t let a young dog run freely around your house, or you’ll lose shoes or toys. Dogs also need to exercise twice a day. 62 We’re talking about a lot of active exercise. A fenced (篱笆) yard with a doghouse is a good idea, especially for large and active dogs. But dogs should never be left outside alone for long periods of time. They need to be kept company. 6377 When you take your dog for a walk or run, always keep it on a chain and off other people. You are responsible for accidents and bites caused by your dog. You should always pick up after your dog, no matter where it “does its business”. Respect your dog. 64 There’s truth to the saying, “Dogs are man’s best friends!” A. Housetraining can take up to six months. B. And it will respect and protect you. C. Make sure your dog has regular checkups. D. They should stay inside with the family whenever possible. E. That doesn’t mean a short walk around the block. 八、阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。(共10分,每小题2分) One morning it took me an hour to watch a small ant carry a huge feather across my back porch (走廊). Several times it met objects on its path and after a short time it would go around them. At one point the ant had to deal with a crack (裂缝) about 10mm wide. After a short time of thought, the ant laid the feather over the crack, walked across it and picked it up on the other side then continued on its way.
