While beach vacations may be a great way to take your mind off work, people tend to forget about lakes, which can be as equally beautiful a travel destination as beach holidays. If you are looking for some peace on your vacation, we have some recommendations for you in the Caucasus.
1) Lake Van
Lake Van is the must－visit of all lakes on this list. The largest lake in Turkey, Lake Van is located on the eastern shore of Turkey and is also the most accessible lake there. It's situated at 5，380ft above sea level, and unique to lakes around the world, the water is high in salt content.
2) Lake Cildir
Lake Cildir is located in Ardahan Province, East Turkey, near the borders of Georgia and Armenia. It is the second largest freshwater lake in Eastern Turkey, and many tourists are not aware of this beautiful attraction. Lake Cildir is surrounded by mountains of the Caucasus. The lake freezes during late November. If the winter is not harsh, you can try some lake activities like ice skating and ice fishing.
3) Lake Paravani
Lake Paravani is located in the south of Georgia. This time, the elevation(海拔)gets a little higher, as this lake is located at 6，801ft above sea level. At this level, altitude sickness can occur and it is a good idea to bring medication for altitude sickness. Being a volcanic lake makes for a more interesting experience. The lake is best known for fishing.
4) Lake Seven
Lake Seven is situated in the central part of Armenia, in Gegharkunik Province. It is the largest lake in Armenia, located at 6，200ft above sea level. Along the lake shore, there are various kinds of accommodation such as resorts and hotels, with plenty of activities to take part in, such as windsurfing, swimming and sunbathing. Meanwhile, do not forget to visit one of the famous cultural monuments, the Sevanavank Monastery(修道院), and it offers a great view of the lake as well.

One evening in 1972, my father was driving across Westminster when in the rear view mirror, he noticed a flash and pulled over, only to see a terrible explosion. A car behind him had just been involved in a terrible accident and was on fire. Without hesitation, Dad ran all the way to the scene. People were already standing around, staring, just as the flames began to reach around to the engine of the car. A little girl was screaming in the back seat, saying she couldn't get her seat belt undone. “It's hopeless，” somebody said, as everyone moved back, and some turned away.
Dad suddenly pulled the child across the seat through the flames and out of the car. Then he carried her onto the street. He turned and walked out of the fire just as the rear window of the car exploded.
Dad walked back to his car in a daze(茫然地) and drove on. By the time he returned home, everyone was already in bed, so without turning on the lights, he went to his room and lay down next to my mom. Dad said he was hurt, but Mom didn't know what he meant, and he was too tired to explain.
My mother stared in disbelief at my father's swollen, red face and arms the next morning. He had been temporarily blinded and it took several days before he could fully see. He told her the story of how the girl was saved. Since my parents are private people, they didn't feel the need to talk about what had happened to anyone outside of the family.
But that didn't keep the press away. Reports followed, identifying my father as the “Mystery Rescuer”. Dad was to receive a Headliner Award from the Orange County Chamber of Commerce.
Dad walked up to the stage to receive his award and said, “I'm not the hero.” Dad maintains to this day that the heroes there that night were those who fought when they were asked to fight, who stood behind their country, and who risked all that they had in a terrifying battle. “They weren't brave just once, but on a continuing basis, over and over again，” he said.

Are you more of a Botticelli or a Van Gogh?
A new feature in the Google Arts & Culture app reveals how a picture of your face may resemble a historical painting.
The app went viral this weekend after users discovered the entertaining feature that analyzes selfies(自拍) and matches them to historical artwork. It pulls from Google's digital collection of artworks from museums around the world.
The feature rolled out to the app on iOS and Android last month. But users—even some big names such as Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, musician Pete Wentz, and actors Felicia Day and Kumail Nanjiani—shared their results on news feeds.
The app became the top downloaded iPhone app over the weekend, and landed in the top 10 on Android, according to analytics firm App Annie.
To find your fine art doppelganger(与某人外貌相同的人), open the Google Arts & Culture app and scroll until you see the “Is your portrait in a museum？” feature. Tap “get started”， and you'll be guided through the process.
It's currently only available in the U．S.
Google said the experimental feature uses computer vision technology to scan facial features and extract data to match with paintings. The company said it won't use data from photos for any other purpose but to match it with images in its catalog. It only stores selfies for the time it takes to find matches, Google said.
The selfie feature is similar to other apps that use matching technology to find lookalikes. Microsoft's What Dog app can identify and classify dogs based on photos uploaded to the app.
The Google Arts & Culture app is part of the Google Cultural Institute, which provides information about artists, scientists and historical figures from 1，000 institutions worldwide.

Every winter, I get nervous as I hear about people going to work and school with the flu, spreading it to unsuspecting friends and colleagues under the banner that they are needed and can tough it out.
It's an awful flu season this year, and there have been terribly sad cases of people, including otherwise healthy children, dying from it. Maybe this will be the year when people who are sick will stay home until they are not contagious. Maybe this is the year we'll realize our culture of working at all costs is not only bad for us but puts others at risk.
Our daughter Julia, who is 13, is one of those people at risk. Julia has an autoimmune disease I couldn't even pronounce when she was diagnosed 10 years ago. The disease is a cruel and complex combination of autoimmune attacks on various organs.
It took years for an amazing team at SickKids Hospital in Toronto to get a handle on how to manage Julia's symptoms. Now, she is doing really well. But each winter we watch in frustration as we see people make the sick march to work.
