13、In the moder world computers and the Internet are getting more and more popular. Most people think they are very useful in their work and lives.
The first computer was born in 1946. It was very big and it worked slowly. Today computers are getting smaller and smaller, but they work faster and faster. What can computers do? Computers can do many things.
At the same time, our world is getting smaller and smaller with the Internet. The Internet came into the world about twenty-five years later than computers. It makes our lives easier. If you are far away in America, you can talk to your family on the Internet. If you want to read a good book, but you don’t have time to buy it in the bookstore, you can read it on the Internet. You can also read newspaper, do some shopping, play games and make friends on it.
Many students like the Internet so much that they would not like to do anything else. They make friends on the Internet, but they may not see these friends. Some of the students are cheated by (受……的欺骗) the “unreal friends”. Because of the Internet, some students can’t work hard at their lessons. Many of them can’t do as well as before in their studies. 15、 When you were at school, the last thing you probably wanted to do was spend your weekends going to work. There was homework to do, sport to play and fun to be had. But our parents probably advise us to find a job to make some pocket money and get some life experience. When I was a teenager I had a paper round: delivering newspapers to people's homes. I then turned to a Saturday job in a supermarket: putting the things on the shelves in order and working at the checkout.
Today in the UK you are allowed to work from the age of 13, and many children take up part-time jobs. It's a taste of independence. Teenagers agree that it teaches valuable lessons about working with adults and about managing your money. So, that's no bad thing!
Some research has shown that not taking on a Saturday or holiday job could be detrimental to a person later. A 2015 study by the UK Commission on Employment and Skills found that employer's(雇主) organizations criticized young adults because they were ill-prepared for full time work. And they were proved not having taken part-time work at school age. However, a recent report has shown that the number of school children in the UK with a part-time job has fallen by 20% in the past five years.
So, does this mean that British teenagers are now more afraid of hard work? Probably not. Some experts feel that young people think going out to work will influence their performance at school, and they are under more pressure now to study hard and get good exam results---and a good job in the long term. However, Geoff Barton, general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, told BBC News that "Proper part-time work is a good way to help young people learn skills that they will need in their working lives." It's all about getting the right balance between doing part-time work and having enough time to study and rest.
Many young people actually want to work because it gives them a sense of freedom. One 13-year-old girl called Rachel, who has a Saturday job in a shop, told the BBC that "I enjoy my job because I'm making money and it helps my confidence speaking to people and socializing with people I work with." That seems like something worth getting up for on a Saturday morning. Did you do a part-time job when you were at school?
1.According to the passage, teenagers probably prefer on the weekend.
A.doing homework to having fun with friends
B.playing sports outside to doing homework at home
C.having fun with their parents to playing sports outside
D.playing sports to delivering newspapers to people's homes
2.What does the word "detrimental" in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Harmful. B.Impossible. C.Important. D.Worthy.
3.According to the passage, Geoff Barton probably agrees that .
A.Teenagers like taking part-time jobs more than full-time jobs.
B.doing part-time jobs is more important than studying and resting.
C.taking up part-time jobs benefits teenagers' future working lives.
D.teenagers are under more pressure now to study hard and get good grades.
4.What's the writer's main purpose in writing the passage?
A.To call people's attention to the school children
B.To Criticize school children are out of control
C.To show school children dislike part-time jobs
D.To encourage school children to take part-time jobs

16、In the eyes of many foreigners, Chinese are the best hosts (主人) and the worst guests in the world. They’re not really bad guests, but because the guest-host relationship in China is much different than in some western counties, it appears they are not nice guests. And western guests sometimes look rude (粗鲁的) in the eyes of Chinese guests.
In China, guests are almost like gods. Whenever I enter a Chinese person’s home, there is always fruit on the table for me, and someone is quick to bring me a cup of tea or water. In the west, generally the guest is not a god. Acting according to the host’s way of doing things is usual behavior for a guest.
My wife’s mother, a very kind elderly Chinese lady, doesn’t smoke. When I see some of her guests smoking in her house, as a non-smoker, I feel unhappy. Usually I want to stop them directly, but I must realize that in China, to be a good host, she must not do that. In most North America homes, if you are a guest, and the hosts are not smokers, you should not smoke in their house. At the very least, you could ask, “Is it OK if I smoke?” “But, don’t be surprised if they say, “No, you can’t smoke.” In our culture, if you smoke in their home, you are a bad guest, but if they don’t allow you to smoke in their house, they are not a rude guest.
Guests in China also have special habits. Some western people may not adapt to these habits very soon. Thankfully my wife is Chinese, so whenever we visit a Chinese family she tells me to buy them a gift. However, giving a gift to a host is not always necessary in my country. So, if you invite international guests to your home, don’t be too surprised if they don’t bring you a gift.
In China, you probably won't need to change the guest-host relationship very much because you will probably only be the host, and Chinese are naturally very good hosts. If western hosts invite you to their house, try not to be too surprised if their style of treating you is not what you have expected.
1.If the writer’s guests want to smoke in his house, what will he probably say?
A.It’s OK if you smoke here. B.Let’s smoke together.
C.Sorry, you can’t smoke here. D.Smoking is a bad habit.
2.What is the meaning of the underlined phrase “adapt to” in the passage?
A.think back to B.get used to C.look forward to D.keep close to
3.What is the main idea of this passage?
A.Foreigners should learn from Chinese.
B.Hosts must do things in the guest’s way.
C.Western hosts are always nice to guests.
D.People should understand cultural differences.

17、Wang Jiaming from Beijing Chenjinglun High School says he is a lucky boy. He’s happy that he’s sitting the senior high school entrance exam (中考) in 2014 instead of 2016.
On Oct 22, Beijing Municipal Commission of Education (北京市教委) announced that, from 2016, the English scores in the senior high school entrance exam will be reduced from 120 to 100. Of the 100 points, the listening ability scores will increase to 50. Meanwhile, the points for Chinese will increase from 120 to 150.
“The change won’t affect me. I feel so luck because English is my strongest subject,” said Wang.
Why such a change? It places the importance on Chinese in our study, and reduces students’ pressure, said Li Yi, spokesman of the commission.
“The change will also push us to pay attention to the practical usage of English,” said Li. “ Students will be encouraged t
