Like a lot of high school 30 students, Kevin Tran loves superheroes in movies, though perhaps for different reasons than his classmates. “They are all very smart. In their daily jobs they're engineers or scientists," said Tran, 17."And you can't do any of those things without math.”
This summer, Tran studied calculus(微积分)five hours a day with other high school students in a program at Northeastern University. Many Americans joke about how bad they are at math. But Tran and his friends are not the norm(常态).
However, experts in America don't like this joke. They say the nation's ever-dropping math skills will be a danger to the national safety and development of America.
Government labor(劳工) experts say the number of jobs in areas requiring math skills will increase by more than 30,000 each year through the end of 2030.That is much faster than most other kinds of jobs.“Math is becoming more and more a part of almost every job," said Michael Allen. He is a math professor at Tennessee Technological University.
But most American students are not prepared for those jobs. In the most recent Program for International Student Assessment(PISA) tests in math, American students tested lower than students from 36 other education systems around the world, such as Russia, Japan and Germany. Students in China tested the highest.
Students from other countries are preparing to lead in these areas. Only one in five graduate students in math-heavy fields at American universities are American. The rest come from other countries. Most will leave America when they finish their programs.
24.What does the underlined word “They” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. The superheroes in films.
B. Engineers and scientists.
C. Tran's classmates.
25. What can we know about Tran?
A. He dreams of becoming 8 superhero.
B. He has a great interest in studying math..
C. He wants to do the job connected with math in the future.
26. How do experts feel as for the math level of Americans?
A. Satisfied. B. Embarrassed. C. Worried.
27. What is the purpose of Paragraph 4?
A. To introduce some useful math skills.
B. To point out the importance of math.
C. To list some jobs requiring math skills.

Recently, a special event took place at the National Theater of Korea. A robot called EveR 6 led an orchestra(管弦乐团)in a performance of Korean music. Robots have led orchestras in other countries, but this was the first time ever in South Korea.
EveR 6 is a robot built by the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH).It's about as tall as a person, and has a human-like face. EveR 6 can move its arms quickly and smoothly in many different directions. But it doesn't think on its own like some AI programs. To make these movements as natural as possible EveR 6 has to learn from real human conductors(指挥).
In the performance, the National Orchestra of Korea presented a concert named “Absence”. The concert included five different pieces of music. Two were conducted by EveR 6 itself, and two were conducted by Soo-Yeoul Choi, who leads the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra. Both conductors worked together on the final piece called“Sense”. Mr. Choi was responsible for communicating with the musicians, while EveR 6 kept the beat steady(平稳的).
Mr. Choi was impressed(使印象深刻) with the way EveR 6 moved. “The robot's performance was much better than I had imagined," he said. Mr. Choi added the robot's greatest weakness is that it can't hear. "Some people think that conducting is just about hand waving and keeping the beat. That's not true. A good conductor needs to listen to the orchestra so that he or she can correct and encourage the orchestra as it plays," said Mr. Choi.
Mr. Choi doesn't think robots are likely to replace human conductors. But he believes robots could be helpful in situations like practice where the same thing needs to be repeated many times.
28. What can we know about EveR 6?
A. Its face looks like a real person's.
B. It teaches human conductors how to wave.
C. It has its own thoughts as AI programs.
29. How many pieces of music did EveR 6 conduct in total?
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four.
30. What did Mr. Choi think of EveR 6's performance?
A. Disappointing. B. Impressive. C. Perfect.
31. What's the best title for this text?
A. Robot conductors have a bright future
B. A pop concert took place in South Korea
C. A robot in South Korea conducted an orchestra

The Open Hand —a Universal Sign
When meeting people at the airport, most people smile and shake hands with people they meet. We know that a smile is usually a sign that people feel 46 (friend)and happy, but what if we don't know 47 the new person is? What if we are meeting a 48 (strange)in an unfamiliar place?
Sometimes people are dangerous and humans have to find ways to protect 49 (they). We have to make sure we can trust people we do not know. Showing our hands means that we are not armed. In many cultures today, the Western custom of shaking hands is used. We use our right hand, which is usually 50 (strong)than the left one. If we are using our hand this way, it cannot be holding a knife or a gun. It shows that we trust the other person, 51 that the other person can trust us.
Not all cultures use the handshake, and people in many 52 (Asia)cultures do not always touch another person. The traditional 53 (greet)in China is to cover the left hand with the right and bow. In India, Hindu people join their hands in front of their faces and bow their heads. A Muslim will touch his heart, mouth and forehead(额) 54 (show)respect. Even young people in the West now give each other the "high five", 55 they slap(拍)each other's hands high in the air. They are all keeping their hands busy. In almost all cultures, to smile and show an open right hand means, "Welcome, you are safe with me."
