11、"The grass looks greener on the other side of the fence." That's an old 1 in English. It means other places often look better, more interesting than the place 2 you live. Some people worry 3 young Chinese are beginning to feel that way. They see young Chinese ignoring 忽视Chinese culture and, instead, 4 Japanese cartoon books, watching Korean soap operas and even celebrating western holidays.
Foreign books and soap operas are good, 5 Chinese writers and actors are just as good. As for holidays, Christmas is nice, but it can 6 have the meaning for Chinese that Spring Festival has, and the West has nothing to compare with Mid-autumn Festival. And let's not forget the part of Chinese culture I like best: 7 friendliness. Not all countries are as 8 as China.
It's good to enjoy other cultures and to learn 9 them, but they cannot replace your own culture. It's good to look on the other side of the fence, but 10 you take a good long look. You will find that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

14、About 30 years ago, China was known as the "Bicycle Kingdom". But the two-wheeled mode(方式) of transport's popularity began to disappear Many bikes were soon replaced by their fuel-powered competitors. But recent months, we have seen a revival of bikes across China. An increasing number of people choose cycling instead of driving to schools, to workplaces or to do sightseeing. The introduction of bike-sharing project, which was firstly started by newly set up companies like Ofo and Mobike, has brought the popularity to a new level.

People can unlock the shared bikes by simply using their smart phones. The bikes are equipped with GPS and can be left anywhere in public for the next user. They're popular among many Chinese people because they provide an effective solution to the "last mile" problem, which people have to walk to their destinations in the last part of their journeys.
"In places where the subway doesn't arrive, where it's difficult to change from one kind

15、 In the eyes of many Westerners,Chinese are the best hosts but the worst guests in the world. This is probably because the guest-host relationship in China is much different from that in some Western countries.
In China, guests are almost like gods.Whenever I enter a Chinese person's home, there is always fruit on the table for me,and someone is quick to bring me a cup of tea or water. In the West, things are different.Acting according to the host's way of doing things is usual behavior for a guest.
And there are lots of things Westerners find difficult to adapt to.For example,my mother-in-law doesn't smoke,so when I see some of her guests smoking in her house,I as a non-smoker,would feel unhappy.Usually I want to stop them directly. But I must realize that,to be a good host in China, she mustn't do that. However,in most North America homes, you should not smoke. If you really want to smoke, you could ask,“Is it OK if I smoke?”But don't be surprised if you get a “no”.In our culture,it's not considered rude at all.
In China, you probably won't need to change the guest-host relationship very much because you will probably only be the host, and Chinese are naturally very good hosts. But if Western hosts invite you to their house, try not to be too surprised if their style of treating you is not what you have expected.
