21.(6分)As the morning school bell rings and students rush in, teenagers in one classroom settle onto mats and meditation(冥想)pillows. They fall silent after the teacher taps a “singing bow”.
These students are in a for-credit, year-long mindfulness class, which is meant to ease youth anxiety and depression and to prevent violence. For 90 minutes, three days a week, they practice a mix of yoga, sitting, and walking meditation, deep breathing, journaling, and non-judgmental listening.
Yoga and meditation have gained popularity among Americans in recent decades, supported by studies showing benefits to emotional, mental, and physical health. The centuries-old practices have roots in eastern religions, but Western culture has long focused on physical postures, breathing, and relaxation techniques.
Some people have greeted the move with less than enthusiasm. Last year, an elementary school in Ohio ended its mindfulness program after parents complained it was too closely linked to religion. But many school districts are reporting success. In Richmond, California, schools have reported drops in school problems among low-income, at-risk youths. The school district in South Burlington, Vermont, introduced a successful mindfulness course as part of a health and wellness program, and now administrators there have advocated mindfulness into K-12 curriculums.
Two years ago, Caverly Morgan developed the after-school mindfulness program teamed up with Allyson Copacino, who teaches yoga. After hundreds of students signed up, Principal Brian Chatard took note. The school was dealing with a student’s suicide, and few resources were available to address students’ emotional and mental health.
“High school is the hardest period of time for kids,” Mr. Chatard said. “You’ve got emotional changes, physical changes, and all the social pressures. It’s also the onset of mental illness for some kids, depression hits, and there’s the pressure of college and sports. All these things kids do is over¬whelming without having a strategy (策略)to deal with it.” And now schools all over the country are introducing the practices.

3、Who started the mindfulness class?
A.Administrators.

22.(8分)“I’ve never used that road,” I said doubtfully. After a weekend of camping, it’s time for us to go home. The question was, which way?
The campsite in the mountainous Nyanga District of Zimbabwe was an hour and a half’s drive from our house in Mutare. There’s one road between Mutare and Nyanga that everyone uses. We’d driven on it many times. But just before we left for our holiday, a friend had emailed to say she’d heard of another route. So now here we were, with two roads from which to choose.
“Let’s try it,” I said to my husband. “Surely it can’t be too bad.”
Unlike me, an English girl who would never forget her four years in Paris, my husband grew up in this part of the world. He knew the fear of breaking down miles from anywhere with no cellphone signal. But to my surprise, he turned right at the Bonda Mission sign. Almost immediately, the magic began.
“Look, Mum,” Sam, who was 10, cried. “It’s that famous school!”
Sure enough, just past Bonda Mission there was a road sign to Knows tics Academy, a small rural school that nobody had heard of until last year when two of its pupils got the best results in the world for their history final exams, set by the University of Cambridge. We’d read about it in Zimbabwe’s main state-run newspaper but had no idea we’d see it today!
Sometimes I think of what my life might have been like if I’d stayed in Paris, if I’d kept to the main road, the one almost certain to have taken me where I thought I wanted to go. And then I remember what coming across the unknown in Zimbabwe has given me: wonderful experiences I could never have dreamed of.
1、What puzzled the author’s family at the moment of leaving the campsite?
A.How to get home. B.Which route to take.
C.Which city to go to first. D.How to contact their friend.
2、What did the author’s husband do after hearing her suggestion?
A.He expressed his strong fear. B.He found their car broke down.
C.He put it into practice. D.He turned to his cellphone for help.
3、What can we infer from Paragraph 6?
A.It was an unexpected experience to see Knows tics Academy.
B.It was a part of their travel schedule to see Knows tics Academy.
C.Knows tics Academy inspired the author’s son to study harder.
D.Seeing Knows tics Academy was a suggestion given by the author’s friend.
4、What does the author feel according to the last paragraph?
A.She regrets giving up the main road.
B.She can’t help missing her life in Paris.
C.She dreams of settling in Zimbabwe one day.
D.She likes her experiences in Zimbabwe.
23.(8分) The biggest challenge faced by travelers, especially those who like to have a backpacking trip is how to ensure a steady supply of clean clothes. Now, thanks to a great invention called Scrubba Wash Pack, that worry may be a thing of the past.
The portable washing machine was invented by Ash Newland in 2010, while he was planning to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Struck by the limited packing space, he got inspiration from traditional washboards to create a bag that could be used to clean clothes. Then he quitted his career as a lawyer and focused on perfecting the bag’s design. By 2012, the bag was ready for the public. It weighed only 180 grams and required very little storage space, making it perfect for anymore wishing to travel light.
Not surprisingly, the bag which was worth 55 dollars was an instant hit with travelers, university students and even passengers. However, Newland was not satisfied. He still saw a disadvantage with his invention--dirty clothes had to be carried around in a separate bag! The recently introduced Scrubba Wash Pack solves that problem.
In order to make the pack active, dirty clothes are placed inside the bag along with two or three liters of water. The bag is then shut tightly to ensure all air is squeezed out and the colors are massaged for a few minutes. After a quick wash, they are clean and ready to be dried. According to Newland, the pack can clean anything from jeans to smelly socks! What’s even more amazing is that with a capacity to hold 13 liters of water, it can be used to wash more clothes at a time.
The best part is that the 99-dollar pack that will be available for sale later this year, only weighs 300 grams and is completely foldable, making it easy to store when it’s not in use. With the Scrubba Wash Pack, wandering through foreign cities searching for a washing shop, or paying for washing machines may soon be a thing of the past!
1、What led Ash Newland to create the Scrunba Wash Pack?
A.His job requirements. B.A traditional washboard.
C.His interest in invention. D.His personal experience.
2、Why wasn’t Ash Newland satisfied with his former invention?
A.Clothes couldn’t be washed well.
B.The invention was not so convenient.
C.The bag couldn’t contain enough water.
D.The cost of the invention was very high.
3、It can be inferred that the improved Scrubba Wash Pack ________.
A.turns to be much environmentally friendlier.
B.will replace the traditional washing machines.
C.will be widely used by more travelers in the future.
D.can encourage more people to travel a long distance.
4、What is the best title of this passage?
A.A thing of the past: Travelers’ worry of washing clothes.
B.The Scrubba Wash Pack--A bag free of washing.
C.The development of a great invention.
D.How to design a new pack for travelers.
