The technology has come a long way in the last decade, and it’s become more affordable too. Finally, I went ahead and ordered a Y-DNA test. The results came in my email inbox from the DNA lab! When I logged in to see the results, there are 29 living people today with whom I share a common direct male ancestor in about the last 1,000 years. They live in Ireland, England, Scotland, South Africa, the United States and probably elsewhere. I had two close matches, and the rest were more distant. They both live in Ireland! What makes the connection to these two men so interesting is that most Irish genealogical (族谱的)records were burned in fires in Dublin and don’t exist today. Without them, it ‘s hard to trace Irish roots any further back than the 1800s. I’ve written emails to both of them and hope to hear back ! I did some more research on my Y-DNA and found my direct male ancestors were Celtics. They seem to have lived in Western Europe at the time of Ancient Rome. Migration patterns show that my DNA group likely originated in Western Asia, living there 20, 000 and 30, 000 years ago. There are relatives with similar DNA going thousands of years back in what is now Iran, India, Syria, Israel and Turkey. I was so excited by these results that I decided to trace my motherly line too. My DNA is already at the lab, so now I just have to wait another month or so, and I’m sure to find more interesting things. 1、What is the author’s purpose of doing a Y-DNA test? A.To satisfy his curiosity about DNA. B.To know more about his ancestors. C.To find his families separated long ago. D.To rewrite genealogical records in Ireland. 2、Which of the following can replace the underlined word “matches” in paragraph 3? A.friends B.relatives C.ancestors D.competitions 3、Where did the author’s family root in? A.Ireland. B.Western Asia. C.Ancient Rome. D.Western Europe. 4、How did the author feel about the results of the DNA test? A.Inspired. B.Relieved. C.Confused. D.Discouraged. 22.(8分)LIANG TAO sold 80 pink Givenchy bags in 12minutes. Becky Fang sold 100 Mini Cooper cars in just five. Both are wanghong, literally "red﹣hot on the web". Every day millions of Chinese search social media for wanghong posts or tune in to live﹣streams for wanghong's opinions on everything. The fans are helping this new Chinese Internet star to make money out of their popularity﹣and to shake up the country's e﹣commerce industry in the process. A few of wanghong have been hired by luxury brands. Jaeger﹣LeCoultre, a Swiss watchmaker, hired Papi Jiang for a video ad targeting young urbanites (都市人), including her 27m fans on Sina Weibo, a Twitter﹣like microblog. Zhang Yi of iiMedia Research, a consulting firm, estimates that up to 15% of sales on shopping sites like Taobao or social﹣media apps such as WeChat are influenced by wanghong's public support. The length of a dress might be decided by a survey of a wanghong's fans; its launch date might be based on the number of hits, shares or comments it collects, some of which can cause last﹣minute design changes. This poses a new challenge for retailers (零售商), whose supply chains must respond ever more quickly to wanghong's opinions. Whereas previously a company would look for a celebrity to match its image, wanghong and their admirers are shaping goods. Another challenge comes directly from wanghong themselves. They increasingly make money not merely from online support or advice but by launching their own e﹣commerce stores. Sales of goods accounted for just under half of wanghong earnings of 53bn yuan (﹩8bn) in 2016, estimates Analysys, a Chinese market﹣research firm (the rest came mostly from live﹣show tips and adverts). Some wanghong are going a step further. In November Becky Fang launched her own clothing line. Part of her motivation, she says, was that the brands she supported did not always match the trends she was sharing with her followers. By creating her own brand, Becky's Fantasy, she have full control of the quality. She also gains a new income. For the time being only 3﹣5% of wanghong follow Becky Fang's example, iiMedia Research estimates. But t expects the model to become an industry in its own right, including entertainment and e﹣commerce, and driven by online data. 1、(小题1)Why can wanghong use their popularity to make money? A.Because they are Internet stars. B.Because they use social media. C.Because their opinions influence fans. D.Because they can shake the e﹣commerce industry. 2、(小题2)What is the characteristic of the products supported by wanghong? A.It is fans﹣based. B.It is social﹣media﹣based. C.It is design﹣shared. D.It is youth﹣targeted. 3、(小题3)What are the challenges for retailers? A.Online support and advice. B.Increasing sales of goods online. C.Quick responses to the market changes. D.Wanghong's opinions and e﹣commerce stores. 4、(小题4)Why do some wanghong create their own brands? A.Because they want to attract more fans. B.Because they want to share with their followers. C.Because they want to set up a new industry model. D.Because the brands they speak for can't satisfy their fans. 23.(8分) Bookstores are a traveller's best friend: they provide convenient shelter in bad weather, and they often host readings and other cultural events. Possessing a skill or piece of knowledge is not the same thing as being able to show it. This is why many smart young people hate school. Understanding, figuring out,and getting a handle on a piece of knowledge is really exciting, but having to prove to somebody else that you understand is a pain in the neck. Finding proof of student learning is a huge part of the teacher’s job,and whether it is done poorly or not makes all the difference in that teacher’s effectiveness. There is a huge difference between“how do I figure out if this student understands”and“how do I make this student prove to me he gets it”.The first is a valuable approach;the second is the first step on the road toward wasting everybody’s time. And there’s the problem. If we start with the assumption that a student who knows must be able to show his knowledge to our satisfaction,we will be traveling down the wrong road. The more we demand that students prove to us that they know the stuff, the more we will design artificial tasks that demand a set of skills and knowledge entirely different from those we really want to measure. As a classroom teacher,I have to remember that the burden(重担)is on me to find a way to see what my students know;the burden is not on them to put on whatever trained monkey show. It may not be the worst thing ever to say,“Students should be able to show what they know.”But I think it’s far more useful to say,“Teachers should be able to discover what students know.” 1、What does the underlined phrase in the second paragraph mean? A.Very dangerous. B.Very annoying. C.Very surprising. D.Very frequent. 2、According to the third paragraph,a teacher should have the ability to________. A.discover whether his students have understood B.avoid wasting the precious time in class C.apply various approaches while teaching D.give students the chance to prove themselves 3、What does the author think of the artificial tasks designed to test student learning? A.They should be limited in number. B.They are a huge burden on teachers. C.They should mainly focus on effectiveness. D.They slide away from the original purpose. 4、What is the main idea of the passage? A.Students should be able to show what they know. B.There are many ways to find proof of student learning. C.Teachers should be able to discover what students know. D.There should be better understanding between teachers and students. 25.(10分)Dec 11, 2016 marked the 15th anniversary of China’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO). Now the country has grown into the world's second-largest economy and the largest trading country, while millions Chinese have been lifted out of poverty. And 15 years on, being a WTO member has transformed the nation s everyday lives for the better. Imports are now a common sight in Chinese stores and supermarkets, while they were previously rarely seen on shelves. The Chinese now have access to many imports varying from luxury goods like high-end cars and famous brand watches to daily necessities like vegetables and fruits. China’s WTO membership has also made imports less expensive for the Chinese public. For instance, since 2005, no tariffs (关税)have been charged on Chinese imports of digital cameras and video games, along with other devices. This has made them less expensive. Chinese education industry has also benefited from China’s WTO membership. Many top global universities have joined forces with Chinese ones to establish cooperative education institutions, bringing foreign teaching concepts to Chinese students. For example, New York University Shanghai was jointly founded by New York University and East China Normal University. In addition, an increasing number of Chinese students are furthering their studies abroad. According to the Ministry of ducation , 523,700 students studied overseas last year, and the number is expected to continue growing this year. China's WTO entry has brought benefits not only to the country’s peopl
