21.(6分)An environment full of interesting or exciting ideas is important for young children, and much of a child’s brain develops during the earliest part of life. The visual system, in particular, develops rapidly over the first few weeks. As early as nine minutes after birth, babies prefer to look at photographs and pictures that most resemble the human face. Newborns can see color, and a one-month-old can tell red from green. At 12 weeks old, babies show preferences for colored things as opposed to white ones.
In addition to looking at themselves, babies are attracted to high contrast visuals, colorful objects, and faces. The same holds true for babies, who also are drawn to looking at animals, shiny objects, and familiar items that are part of their world.
It’s no surprise, then, that an art museum is a rich source of visual inspiration for babies. Introducing babies to works of art promotes early neuron(神经元)connections in the brain. And for the verbal study, interacting with an adult in naming images and describing different characteristics in a work of art lays the groundwork for visual and language development.

22.(8分)The first six months I was married, I truly wanted to scream and pull my hair out. My husband and I really had some all-out battles about his parents (regarding finances, where we would live, religious issues, etc.). Unfortunately, he was completely oblivious to how I felt or that anything was truly wrong. When I was going through all of this with my husband, I really felt so alone. I thought I was crazy/selfish to feel that way and often blamed myself. At first, I called him a Mama’s Boy and told him I felt like I was a low priority to him. This, of course, did not go over well... so I changed my direction.
I’ve been married for three years now, and Jenna’s book played a big role in gaining my husband’s loyalty. I started out by making a decision that I would not berate (责怪) my husband for his family’s actions. After all, he can’t help what his relatives do, and to blame him for other people’s actions wouldn’t really be fair. Secondly, I made a resolution that I would NEVER let them create an argument or problem between my husband and me... this was really a groundbreaking moment for me. After all, it was in my power to control what items became issues in my marriage. I wouldn’t allow petty stuff his family did to upset our balance... that would just give them more power, control, and influence. This took a lot of time, but once my husband realized that I was taking the high road, he started listening to me more.
I promised “for better or for worse” and I decided not to let my in-laws make it worse. As a new bride, I had no idea what I was in for in terms of family management, and even now I take time to re-read certain sections from Jenna’s book periodically. It is taking time and patience to gain my husband’s loyalty, and it’s an ongoing process — but I think it’s well worth it.

23.(8分)Microsoft has developed a new smartphone app that interprets eye signals and translates them into letters, allowing people with motor neurone disease to communicate with others from a phone.
The GazeSpeak app combines a smartphone’s camera with artificial intelligence to recognize eye movements in real time and convert them into letters, words and sentences.
For people suffering from ALS(渐冻症), also known as motor neurone disease, eye movement can be the only way they are able to communicate.
“Current eye-tracking input systems for people with ALS or other motor impairments are expensive, not robust under sunlight, and inconvenient to operate and carry,” said Xiaoyi Zhang,a researcher at Microsoft who developed the technology.
“To overcome the drawbacks, we created GazeSpeak, which is designed to be low-cost, robust, portable and easy to learn.”
The app is used by the listener by pointing his smartphone at the speaker. A chart that can be stuck to the back of the smartphone is then used by the speaker to determine which eye movements to make in order to communicate.
The sticker shows four grids of letters, which each corresponds to a different eye movement. By looking up, down, left or right, the speaker selects which grids the letters they want belong to. The artificial intelligence system is then able to predict the word or sentence they are trying to say.
Zhang’s research, Smartphone-Based Gaze Gesture Communication for People with Motor Disabilities, is set to be presented at the Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems in May.
1、What’s the major function of Paragraph 1?

25.(10分)Until recently, voice cloning — or voice banking, as it was then known — was a customized industry which served those at risk of losing the power of speech to cancer or surgery. Synthesizing(合成) a voice was a long and expensive process. It meant recording many phrases, each spoken many times, with different the history of the KidPass blog emotional emphase(s重音)and in different contexts (statement, question, command and so forth), in order to the tips on writing good articles online cover all possible pronunciations.
Not any more. Software exists that can store pieces of recorded speech which is merely five milliseconds long, each marked with a precise pitch(音高). These can be put together to make new words, and adjusted individually so that they fit harmoniously into their new sonic homes. This is much cheaper than conventional voice banking, and permits novel uses to be developed.
This year Vivo Text plans to release an app that lets users select the emphasis, speed and level of happiness or sadness with which individual words and phrases are produced. Mr. Silbert refers to the emotive quality of the human voice as “the ultimate instrument”. Yet this power also troubles him. Vivo Text licenses its software to Hasbro, an American toymaker keen to sell increasingly interactive playthings. Hasbro is aware, Mr. Silbert notes, that without safeguards a naughty child might, for example, type impolite words on his mother’s smartphone in order to see a younger sibling burst into tears on hearing them spoken by a toy using mum’s voice.
More troubling, when tested against voice-biometrics software like that used by many banks to block unauthorized access to accounts, more than 80% of the fake voices tricked the computer. Alan Black, one of Festvox’s developers, thinks systems that rely on voice-ID software
