Akzo Nobel International Paint The procedures for coating application/repair of Chartek7 on the C platform project PL19-3 II 一、 Scope This coating systems and the procedures on coating application is applicable to the steel structure surface treatment, protective coating and the fireproofing coat application. This procedures is established according to the demand of this project Tech. Spec. and the products manual of Akzo Nobel protective coatings, this guidance can not instead of the above document, but it is the reinforce explanation or the detail description. We will modify the segment with correlation in this procedures if the protective coating system of this project is changed. 二、Protective coating systems and fireproofing coating systems 1. It must be pre-painting with brush before each layer coat. 2. The part that no-coat by the design or the 100mm area that being ready to weld seal, Please don't paint. 3. The paint operator makes the paint application successfully and has the best coating effect by properly adjusting the dosage of the thinner according to the actual case about spray-engine, the pressure of the air be compressed, the condition of the climate. 4. Primer and the sealer the thickness is MAX 110µm. 5. *: DNV (Det Norske Veritars) accept H-60 class std thickness DFT 9mm. See attachment 2. 6. Finish coat color is yellow (IP-B117). 2. Fireproofing coating systems coat Paint type The ratio of A to B (Vol) thinner the ratio of dilution WFT mm DFT mm Design a Chartek7 2.44:1 GTA822 NO 5 5 Design b Chartek 7 2.44:1 GTA822 NO 10 9 Design c Chartek 7 2.44:1 GTA822 NO 13 13 Notice: Design a, b or c is for the demand that the thickness of the fireproofing coat in the different area. 三、Surface preparation 1 The structural preparation The sharp side of the components and the edge of incision with the flame must be polished before abrasive blasting, Jointing limitation such as air hole, non-concatenate weld line (concave) and so on must be modified, the weld line and its two sides must be polished to put in order, free from weld spatter, weld sediment etc in order to exert the performance of the paint in the surface of the steel structure. It must be finished that being ought to install the accessory and ship equipment before applying the fireproofing paint. 2 Degrease and preparation The grease of the components that happen in the course of being made, swung and machining process, the relational reagent that being used to crack detection and shoot, and other contamination, they must be cleaned up together, all abrasive blasted surfaces should be blasted to a standard equal to SSPC-SP1. We usually adopt the cleaner such as industrial cleaner, the emulsifier and the solvent. 3 The abrasives The abrasives that spraying and cleaning up shall be clean, dry, degrease and free from the contaminants. It can't affect the protective performance of the paint. Adequate traps and separators shall be provided at the compressor and at the pot inlet. 4 The blasting abrasive preparation The surface to be coated shall accord with ISO8501 Sa2.5, and have the specified roughness from 50µm to 75µm。 四、Painting processes The primer shall be finished only one time in the workshop or prefabricate field, the primer must be swept properly before applying the connective paint, the DFT of the protective coat shall be checked strictly before applying the fireproofing coat and its maximum can’t overrun 110um.The surface state of the fireproofing coat shall be checked before applying the top paint, if the part that being raised is serious in the surface, it can be obtained to level up and smooth by the polishing means. 1 Please pay attention to such proceeding particularly during paint processes 1.1 It shall adopt the correspond measure to improve environment when the air temperature is under 10 ℃or above 40℃ (except special stipulate). 1.2 It shall not apply the paint when the relative humidity of the air is greater than 85% or the temperature on the surfaces is less than 3℃ above the dew point. The relative humidity of the air is less than 80% when applying the topcoat so as to ensure the topcoat being the first-rank gloss effect. When applying or after applying the vapor coagulation appear, it will lead to lose the gloss in the surface, as being the seeper in the surface, it can lead to colors change. It is especially clear that in the dark color topcoat and in the low temperature condition, thus applying the topcoat shall be suggested to choose the fine day or in the shed that can prevent from the rain. 1.3 The distance between the spray gun and the component that be coated is dominated to 30—40cm when spraying the protective coat, the spray gun shall is right vertically the surface. The breadth that the spray gun to-and-fro is dominated to 0.8—1.0m, otherwise it is easy to bring waste or the lacquers mist fly upwards. 1.4 It need the safeguard for the component that having been completed, and avoid injuring the film when else type of work proceed, therefore it had better use the fabric to prevent contamination and damage. 2 Applying the sealer paint Intergard269 The min. DFT must reach 75 µm in order to acquire optimal anti-corrosive ability. 2.1 Working Pot-life 10℃ 15℃ 25℃ 40℃ 16 hrs 12 hrs 8 hrs 3 hrs Notice: The paint that overrun the working pot-life of the mixture is not fit for applying, otherwise it is easy to bring hang and bad solidify, weak adhesion after spraying. 2.2 Beforehand brush coating and DFT Stripe coat is using brush painting on free side, welding line, sector hole and the dead angle that is difficult to touch before spraying application. The running and pile phenomenon when beforehand coating is likely to bring crack. Max. 10 ℃ 40 min 16 hrs 16 hrs Extended 15 ℃ 35 min 12 hrs 12 hrs Extended 25 ℃ 30 min 8 hrs 8 hrs Extended 40 ℃ 15 min 1 hr 4 hrs Extended 2.4 Over coating The surface of the film should be suggested to grind with sand paper to remove the painting dust, mud-dust and the contamination after the DFT of the work-piece has been measured. 3 Applying the fireproofing coating Chartek7 This is a fireproofing paint which has the best performance, high build, and solvent free and reinforced epoxy in tumescent. It is designed to protect steel products, aluminum timber and other material avoid spraying fire by cellulose and hydrocarbon. It has good efficacy that maintaining steel products in partly lifetime. The environment temperature can not under 10 ℃while applying Chartek 7. The demand for DFT: the design as 5mm, 10 mm, 13mm according to the different flame area. The thinner is GTA822;tool cleaner is GTA822.It is no suggestion that adding the thinner when mixing the paint, please refer to the technical department of Akzo Nobel protective coatings (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. Applying the paint should be according to the demand of specific fireproofing character, International Coating HK-1 carbon composite mesh shall be installed in accordance with specific fire proofing design by Akzo Nobel protective coatings (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. The griddling that comes down to this project should be set HK-1 carbon composite mesh by 100 percent in the setting scheme. The setting and installation method for the griddling: 100 percent is layed in the fireproofing coat in the application, the joint part should meet the scope that no less than 150mm. The detailed operation methods refer to the illustration standard in the Chartek7 Application Manual or applying according to the method by the IP Coating Engineer on site from Akzo Nobel protective coatings (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. 3.1 Mixing and stirring The ratio of A to B is 2.44:1(wt) As adopting current equipment and trowel to apply, put the paint in the condition of 23 ℃ for 24 hours before mixing the paint. When applying, separately open A suit and B suit, and individually agitated to uniformity by the specific power agitator, afterwards according to the ratio to mix adequately. The paint that has been mixed must be applied in the working pot-life. 3.2 Working Pot-life 15℃ 25℃ 32℃ 38℃ 90 min 50 min 20 min 10 min 3.3 Application method The paint should be applied with preheating plural component airless spray machine. The current airless spray (68:1) is merely suitable for small area. We suggest that the spray equipment shall be cleaned periodically. The frequency of cleaning will depend upon amount sprayed, the temperature and the elapsed time, including any delays. 3.4 Spraying application Applying Chartek7 paint can be divided into three step: the first step is that spraying the paint must be up to the specified 1/2 coat DFT, spatula scraping, smoothing and repairing to flat. The second, promptly stick the griddling, using the roller roll on the surface of the griddling again and again, make sure the griddling to stick the coat hardly, and then, mist spraying, obtaining the purpose of wetting the griddling. The third, measure DFT and mark the reading after the surface of the second step is hard dry, the brink 250mm of the second step surface that need to be joined Shall be protected by adopting the protective measure to make sure the griddling stick well to the next coat, it is convenient for applying the coat that border upon joined area. Continue to spray Chartek7 again according to the actual thickness previously so as to reach the final the thickness that be designed. The final coat surface shall be cleaned up by the roller and trowel, being turn into flat level and state. A Large area must use preheating plural components airless spray. (For this method, the operators must accept the training officially), while spraying, the operators must check the wet thickness at any moment to make sure the demand for the thickness is achieved. For little Area or the small repairing area may be done by the trowel handcraft. B. Applying Chartek7 must keep the continuity, when the first layer Chartek 7 has been finished, promptly stick the griddling. Applying Chartek7 every time, shall choose the position in advance, according to the shape and the size Of this position to cut out and fix the griddling, so that ensure applying continuously. Notice: For over coating Chartek7, the paint must be done with roll coating or trowel coating, ensure the substrate wetness completely. The optimal time for over coating the top paint on the surface of the Chartek7 is “wet meet wet” or within 12 hours after Chartek 7 applying, and before the Chartek 7 has be contaminated. C. Applying Chartek7, main body structure should extends 350 mm, subsidiary body structure should extends 250mm. 3.5 Curing It is like to cure incompletely and surface contamination, reduce the adhesion among the coating layers if the Chartek 7 coat is exposure in lower temperature or high humidity during painting applying or finishing painting just now. 3.6 Acceptance criteria of thickness DFT for CHARTEK 7 The minimum acceptable thickness DFT at any point shall not be less than 85% of the design thickness up to a maximum of 1.5mm less than the design thickness. In other words, for thicknesses up to and including 10 mm the minimum allowable thickness is 85% of the design thickness. For thickness above 10mm the minimum allowable thickness is the design thickness less 1.5mm. 3.7 Touch-dry, hard-dry and overcoating intervals Sur.Temp. Max. 15 ℃ 2hrs 12hrs 12hrs Extended 25 ℃ 1hr 6hrs 6hrs Extended 40 ℃ 1hr 4hrs 4hrs Extended 3.8 Overcoating The DFT has been checked and accepted after the coat is dry-through, and checking the surface of the coat again, the position that being discontentment serious must be mechanical polished to repair, become to flat level and adopting the measures to protect it avoid to damaged or contaminated. 4 Applying topcoat Interthane 990 The specific DFT : 50µm;the solvent: GTA733;cleaner: GTA733。 When spraying the topcoat, the pump must be clean by the thinner GTA733, then spraying the topcoat. Remark: Only International GTA733 shall be adopted to clean the painting equipment, the other thinner may affect the curing of the paint. 五、 The Touch up for damaged area(only for small area) The coat must be protected after applying the fireproofing coat Chartek7, It is not permitted to destroy badly. If the design modification is necessary, the component needed to weld on the coat, please to take this method: 1. To strike down Chartek7 coat from jointing dot and 250mm scope, then jointing 2. After jointing, mechanical grind the welding, and the areas where Chartek7 is stroked down to reach the St3 ISO 8501,then touch up the tie paint Intergard269 75um. 3. At the edge 250mm scope of Chartek7 coating, to grind out 50mm width by mechanical polish to expose the griddling. 4. Finally, apply the Chartek 7 again according to 5.6 processes by trowel coating, Circumjacent griddling is joined no less than 50mm. If only the topcoat was damaged, please gently polish level up (St2. Using 80 mesh sand paper, after cleaning the powder and dust, spraying (air spraying) the top coating. 六、QC and QA 1. The coating contractor is obligate to draw the coating quality control procedure, and establish and perfect quality control system, the personnel specified is assigned for coating work 2.
