The Rutgers University study found that this mind and body combination, done twice a week for only two months, reduced the symptoms for a group of students by 40 percent. “We are excited by the findings because we saw such a meaningful improvement in both clinically depressed and non-depressed students,” said lead author Dr. Brandon Alderman. “It is the first time that both of these two behavioral ways have been looked at together for dealing with depression.” Researchers believe the two activities have an interactive effect on combating depression. Alderman and Dr. Tracey Shors discovered that a combination of mental and physical training (MAP) enabled students with major depressive disorder not to let problems or negative thoughts defeat them. Rutgers researchers say those who participated in the study began with 30 minutes of focused attention meditation followed by 30 minutes of oxygen sport. They were told that if their thoughts drifted to the past or the future they should refocus on their breathing, enabling those with depression to accept moment-to-moment changes in attention. Shors, who studies the production of new brain cells in the hippocampus—part of the brain involved in memory and learning—says scientists have shown in animal models that oxygen sport exercise keeps a large number of certain cells alive. The idea for the human intervention(干预)came from her laboratory studies, she says, with the main goal of helping individuals acquire new skills so that they can learn to recover from stressful life events. By learning to focus their attention and exercise, people who are fighting depression can acquire new learning skills that can help them process information and reduce the overwhelming recollection of memories from the past, Shors says. “We know these treatments can be practiced over a lifetime and that they will be effective in improving mental health.” said Alderman. “The good news is that this intervention can be practiced by anyone at any time and at no cost.” 1、What made the research so different? A.Adopting a way of meaningful talk. B.Combining the two behavioral ways to treat depression. C.Treating depression with special medicine. D.Comparing the depressed with the non-depressed. 2、The underlined word “combating” in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by ______. A.fighting B.identifying C.distinguishing D.examining 3、What did the participants do in the research? A.They did oxygen sport half an hour before thinking. B.They thought quietly and then took exercise. C.They took exercise longer than they thought. D.They took exercise while thinking quietly. 4、What is Shors’ main purpose of her studies? A.To find out certain brain cells of humans. B.To study the production of new brain cells. C.To offer people a new method to treat stress. D.To decide the links between stress and exercise. B In the U. S. state of Washington, a road called Interstate 90 cuts through a wild mountainous area to reach the city of Seattle. For the area's many kinds of animals, the busy highway greatly limits their movements. Animals need to move to find food, to find mates and to find new places to live. Crossing I-90 as the road is called is a risky but sometimes necessary act. But soon, animals will have a safer choice. To help the animals, the state is finishing work on its largest-ever wildlife bridge. The 11-meter-tall, 20-meter-wide bridge begins in the forest. Workers are adding fencing anti-plants to help guide the animals across the bridge. The I-90 bridge is part of a growing number of wildlife crossings across the United States. Some are fences, some are overland bridges, and some are underpasses. They all aim to keep drivers and animals away from each other. A U.S. Transportation Department study found crashes between animals and humans rose year by year. The accidents made up about 5 percent of all crashes nationally, and cost the economy about $8 billion. Such costs come from car repaid, emergency room visits and removal of the dead animals on roads. Collisions between animals and drivers are rarely deadly to people. But they are often deadly to wildlife. The study also found that 21 endangered or threatened species in the U.S. are affected by vehicle hits. Patty Garvey Darda of the U. S. Forest Service says the $6-million bridge will one day pay for itself because the highway will not have to be fully or partly closed each time a large animal is struck. “If you shut down Interstate 90, you shut down interstate trade.” she adds. 1、Why is moving across highways necessary for animals? A.To survive. B.To find food. C.To follow their habit. D.To free their movements. 2、What are those wildlife crossings in the U.S. built for? A.Avoiding human deaths. B.Preventing car accidents. C.Increasing interstate trade. D.Protecting wild animals. 3、What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 3? A.Highlight the harm caused by car accidents. B.Show the costs related to car-animal crashes. C.Explain the necessity of wildlife crossings. D.Present the urgency to protect wild species. 4、What is Darda’s attitude towards the building of I-90? A.Opposed. B.Concerned. C.Favorable. D.Indifferent. 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节)第一节(每小题1分,满分20分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项. Madison Williams was studying in her bedroom when the door burst open.
