How to be safe in the neighborhood
1 Walk around the neighborhood and ask your parents to tell you whose homes you may visit without them.
2 Say NO to anything that makes you feel bad. And if anything or anyone makes you feel this way, tell your parents.
3 Don’t leave home without telling your parents. Don’t walk or play alone outside.
4 Never come close to an unknown car, and never talk to a man who you never meet①. If the man walks after you all time, run to a safe place, cry for help or call the police.

A Hero
1 On a summer day last August, Nick heard someone shouting for help from the sea as he was at a friend’s birthday party. He ran to the beach and saw two kids in a boat. They were pulled out to sea.
2 Two boys, Christian and Jack,got to the boat nearby and began boating out to pick up a football. When they left the beach, a beach umbrella caught the boat and pulled it far way from the beach①. They tried to boat back to beach. But they were not strong enough.
3 Nick, 34, ran to the beach. The boat was already far away from the beach. “Everything went quiet in my head,” Nick recalls. “I was only trying to find out how to swim to the boys at once.”
4 Nick took off his clothes and jumped into the cold water. “I wonder if I am putting my life at risk,” Nick said. After 30 minutes’ swimming, he was close enough to shout to the boys, “Take down the umbrella!”
5 Christian tried his best. Finally, he set the umbrella free. Then Nick was able to catch up and climb aboard the boat. “We’re going to get back,” he told them.
6 To Christian’s father, Nick had been a stranger before that day. Now, he was the man who risked his life to save his son. “You’re a hero,” he told Nick again and again. “You’re a hero.”

2 What can we prepare or do before, during and after earthquake? First, every family should keep a survival bag with a flashlight, a radio, a first aid kit, some food and water for a few days. During an earthquake, do not run outside if the ground is shaking. Try to protect yourself near a table or a bookcase in the house.
