China is famous for its food and has already given me many memorableexperiences. There are lots of Chinese restaurants in Australia, but I was told that they were very different to what Iwould find in China. So I hadno idea what I would be eating when I moved here.
And now, almost eight months since I arrived, I’m still discovering the weird (奇怪的) andwonderful world of Chinese food. And I haven’t seen any local restaurants serving prawn crackers (虾片) or sweet and sour pork, like the Chineseones in Australia.
Perhaps my most memorable meal so far was at a traditional hot pot restaurant. I haveeaten plenty of hot pot before, but this one was really, really hot. My friends watched with interest as Itried duck blood, duck neck and duck intestines(肠). I will try anything once, so I was happy togive it a go. I don’t think I’ll be trying duck blood or intestines again, though.
Walking through Wangfujing’s night market was another interesting experience. We triedScorpion(蝎子) on a stick, sea urchin(海胆),eel(鳗鱼) and many other weird-looking animals.Onething I have noticed in China is that people love to eat everything on sticks.
But the thing I like most about Chinese food is that you don’t have to search very hard to findit. There are people sellingdelicious things on almost every corner, and there is always a restaurant close by in Beijing.
It’s almost impossible to go hungry in China. The only question is:What should I try next?

During the summer holiday, I was lucky enough to go to Chile in South America along with some of my schoolmates. We stayed with Chilean families there. We first met them when they visited our school before. While we were there, we visited many parts of the country, including the Atacama Desert and Chile’s capital city of Santiago.

Not only did I see some amazing scenery, but I was able to experience some unique things there. For example, I swam in Cejar Lagoon, an oasis (绿洲). Also I saw wild flamingos. We watched them in a distance so that they would not fly away.
Then we ate in a cafe at a height of 3,300 meters and climbed a mountain to see cave (洞穴) paintings that were created over 4,000 years ago. I don’t think I will ever forget the view that I got when I watched the sunset on top of the Purple Mountains.
