The United States covers a large part of the North American continent. Its neighbors are Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. Although the United States is a big country，it is not the largest in the world. In ，its population was over 222 million.

Passage 2
A friend of mine named Paul received an expensive car from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office，a street urchin (顽童) was walking around the shining car. “Is this your car，Paul?” he asked.
Paul answered，“Yes，my brother gave it to me for Christmas.” The boy was surprised. “You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn’t cost you anything?Boy，I wish .…” He hesitated.

Like most people，I was brought up to look upon life as a process of getting. It was not until in my late thirties that I made this important discovery：giving-away makes life so much more exciting. You need not worry if you lack money. This is how I experimented with giving-away. If an idea for improving the window display of a neighborhood store flashes to me，I step in and make the suggestion to the storekeeper.
