【典例透析】
（1）Once out in the street, she walked quickly towards her usual bus stop.
一到街上，她就急匆匆地朝着往常乘车的车站走去。
这是一个主从复合句。once引导一个省略了主谓语的时间状语从句，原句应为Once she was out in the street。
当状语从句的主语与主句主语一致，并且从句中的谓语含有be时，则从句中的主语和be可以同时省略。例如：
When first introduced to the market, these products enjoyed great success.
（2）As Polly observed the passengers on the train, she had a feeling that she was being watched by a tall man in a dark coat.
正当Polly打量火车上的乘客时，她感觉到有一个穿着黑色外套的高个子男人在注视着她。
这是一个主从复合句。 as引导时间状语从句，相当于when，表示 “当……时候”。主句中含有一个that引导的同位语从句，从句中的was being watched为过去进行时的被动语态。
例如：Our teaching building was being built at this time last year.
(3) Polly found herself staring up at the face of an old man with a beard.
Polly抬头看去，发现是一个长着络腮胡子的老人。
这是一个简单句，句中的found herself staring up at the face为find oneself doing结构，表示“发觉自己处于某种状态”
例如：I suddenly found myself running down the street.

We jumped into the water with bullets whizzing past our ears.
