Students greet the teacher as usual.

S: Kind, friendly, warm-hearted, honest, smart, beautiful……

S: Ok.

S: Tian Xiaodong\Zhang Xihan……

Zhang Xihan stands up.

Some students describe his\her friends to the whole class and other students guess.

The student thinks about a friend in his\her heart and answers the questions to let the teacher guess.

Some students play the game, two in a pair, and one asks, one guesses.

Students look at the picture.
S: They are friends.

Students listen to the tape then find out the main idea of the text.
Some students try to answer the question.

Students read the text by themselves and find out the general idea of each paragraph.

Some students try to find out the general idea of each paragraph.

After students reading, some students do the exercises and find out the original sentences in the text.

Through the general idea of the text, students can get a whole master of the text.

Students discuss with their group partners.

Some students come to the front of the classroom to show their dialogues in pairs.

Practice the greeting to others.

Let the students review what we have learned about how to describe a person.

Let the students play the game to attract their interests in the class and practice their oral speaking English and listening ability.

Improve students’ listening ability and the ability of getting the main idea of the text.

Improve students’ ability in finding out the general idea of each paragraph in fast reading

Improve students’ reading ability in finding out the specific knowledge in careful reading.

Improve students’ ability in making a summation about what have learned by themselves.

Let students know how to deal with the problems with their friends in daily life.

Let students have a whole idea of this class and know the importance of the class.
Step I Greetings
The teacher greets the whole class as usual.

Step II Lead in
T: At the beginning of the class, I want to ask you some questions.
1) Do you have some friends?

2) What do you want you friends to be like?

T: Ok, now let’s play a game. All of you are my friends in our class. Now I want to describe a friend in our class and you try to guess. Understand?

T: He is a boy. He is tall and thin. He doesn’t have big eyes and he is kind to other students. He studies hard and he is good at English. Can you guess who he is?

T: It’s Zhang Xihan. Zhang Xihan, would you like to stand up and let us have a look.

T: Please sit down. Thank you. Now, who would like to play this game? You try to describe one of you friend and let other students guess.

T: Very good.

The teacher asks a student to stand up and ask her\him some questions to guess who her\his friend is in our class.

Model:
T: Do you have a friend in our class?
T: Is it a boy or a girl?
T: Is he\she taller than you or not?
T: Is he\she fat or thin?
T: Does he\she wear a pair of glasses?
T: What color are her glasses?
…
T: Oh, I see. It is…
T: Ok, now I want some of you to play the game. Who would like to play?
Step III Reading
T: Now, please look at this picture, what’s the relationship of these two girls?

The teacher shows the picture to the whole class.
T: Ok, today, we will learn Making Friends.

1 Listen to the tape and find out the main idea of the text.

The text talks about friendship, the importance of friendship and how to make friends.

2 Ask the students to read the text by themselves and find out the general idea of each paragraph.

Para. 1 Friends play an important part in our lives.
Para. 2 People may have different kinds of people.
Para. 3 We may have many good friends but only one best friend.
Para. 4 Friendship is one of life’s greatest treasures.

3 Ask the students to read the text again and try to find out whether the following statements are true or false. Students can discuss with their partner.
1. We can make friends with a number of people.
2. People may have different kinds of friends.
3. One may have many best friends.
4. A good friend is someone who will do anything for you.
5. A good friend is someone you can rely on when you are in need.
6. A chess partner is not a friend.
7. If you play with someone on the playground, the person is your school friends.

4 Ask the students to review the general idea of the text.

Step I Discussion: How to make friends
T: It is difficult for us to talk about how to make friends. Today, I choose three conditions in communication with friends; you try to make dialogues according the pictures. Discuss in groups.

Show three pictures to the students and ask them to make dialogues according to the pictures. They can discuss in groups.

Step V Conclusion
T: Today, we learned how to make friends, I hope it is helpful in your life and you can cherish your friendship and make good friends.
