虚拟语气
试题选例：(10)He hesitated for a moment before kicking the ball，otherwise he____________ a goal． A．had scored B．scored C．would score D．would have scored 答案D。根据前半句陈述语气的动词hesitated，得知本句是在谈论过去的行为，因此空格内填写与过去事实相反的虚拟语气would have scored，这里暗藏着与它(主句谓语)相配合的非真实条件状语从句if he had not hesitated for a moment before kicking the ball。
知识要点：1. 在非真实条件句中，由if引导的与将来(或目前)事实可能相反的条件状语从句，可由动词的过去时、should加动词原形、were(was)t0加动词原形等三种形式构成谓语，如If he went (should go，were to go)，I would go with him.
2. 由与过去事实相反的假设引起的非真实条件句，其时态配合的原则为，if引导的条件状语从句的谓语用过去完成时态，主句的谓语用过去将来完成时态，如If you had not walked such a long distance．You would not have been so tired．
3. 有时根据实际表达的需要，条件状语从句和主句没有严格匹配，形成混合条件句，如If you had worked harder，your English would be better now．[主句不用would have been]／If I were you．I would have gone to the cinema．[从句不用had been ]
4. 在it is necessary that结构中，从句谓语需用虚拟语气should加动词原形(或省略should．直接用动词原形)。除necessary外，strange，important，natural，a pity等也常见于此结构，如： It is important that a meeting (should) be held to discuss this.
5. it is(about，high)time(是……的时候)以及would rather(would sooner)(宁愿……) 后面跟随的从句中，谓语是用过去时态表示将来的虚拟语气，如It is time you went to see a doctor．以及He'd rather(sooner)I went instead of him．
