Teaching and learning steps
Step 1: Lead in.
The teacher says: Boys and girls, Nice to see you after a long summer vacation .Where did you go on vacation? First let me tell you about my vacation. I went to Mount Tai this summer. Look! It is so beautiful. But it was too crowded. Did you have a good vacation? Can you tell us something about your vacation? Now let’s learn the new words in Unit 1.

【设计意图】通过谈论自己的假期引起学生的兴趣。然后以假期为主题与学生展开自由对话，以此引出本单元句型Where did you go on vacation?
Step 2: Learn to read the words on P121-122.
1. The Ss read the new words alone and mark the difficult words.
2. The Ss read the difficult words according to their phonetic symbols and deal with the pronunciation problems in groups of 4.
3. Get No.3 of each group to read the new words to the class, the others listen. Any student can stand up to correct their pronunciation mistakes. If necessary, the teacher can offer help.
4. Play the tape for the Ss to listen and correct their pronunciation.
5. Get the students to read the words by reading like a poem.
Eg: anyone, anyone, anyone, A-N-Y-O-N-E, anyone!
6. Ask No.4 to read in front of the class. Make sure most students can read the words correctly.

三．Remember the words by conversion(转换) 、complex words （合成）、 derivative（派生）and comparison（对比）.
1．转换
① Students should try their best to use English in class. Do you want to have a try?
② You are old enough to buy things by yourself . Here is enough money for you.
③ There are many dislikes in my life. For example , I dislike eating mutton.
2．合成词 :将两个或两个以上的单词合成在一起而构成的新词.
anyone（任何人）: any（任何） + one（一）
someone( 某人) : some（一些） +one（一）
anywhere（在任何地方）: any （任何）+where（地方）
something（某物）: some（一些）+ thing（东西）
nothing（没有什么）: no（无）+ thing（东西）
everyone（每人）: every（每个）+one（一）

3.派生即在词根上加前缀或后缀构成另一个与原意略有变化或截然相反的词。分为两类即后缀和前缀。

四、Guess the underlined words according to the context.
1. Helen went to Guizhou with her family last month. They saw Huangguoshu Waterfall there .It was wonderful. They took quite a few photos.

Step 4: Consolidate the words and phrases.
1. Get the students to read the words together by reading like a poem.
Eg: G-U-I-T-A-R, G-U-I-T-A-R, G-U-I-T-A-R, guitar, G-U-I-T-A-R!
2. Then get them to work in pairs to have a competition to see who can spell the word 5 times in one go. Underline the words they haven’t grasped.
3. Next get students to work in pairs to spell the words or write down the words with the Chinese given in their guide books.
4. At last get the students to have a short dictation about the important words and phrases.
【设计意图】先通过利用读四言格律诗的格式以及一口气读5遍的方法来对单词加以巩固。这时学生就会有意识地集中精力去记，单词就很容易记住了。学生自查，组长再次检查的方式更有利于学生的自学和小组内的互助。
Step 5: Read the story and try to translate it.
1. Ask the students to read the story, and underline the new words.
2. Translate the story into Chinese in groups of six.
3. Read the story fluently by themselves.
I like traveling. I went to many places in China, such as Beijing, Hong Kong and Guizhou. I saw Tiananmen Square, the Palace Museum and Huangguoshu Waterfall. I think they were wonderful.
Last summer vacation, I went to Malaysia for vacation. For the first day, I tried paragliding on the beach. I felt like I was a bird. It was so exciting. Also I rode a bicycle to Georgetown.There were many old buildings in Weld Quay. They were interesting.
The next day, I went to Penang Hill. A farmer kept a pig, some hens, some ducks and some birds. I took a train to the top after waiting an hour for it, but it rained hard. I got wet because I didn’t have an umbrella. And I couldn’t see anything below. I didn’t have enough money, so I was very hungry and cold. I disliked it very much.
我喜欢旅游，我去过中国的很多地方，例如北京，香港，贵州。我看了天安门广场，故宫以及黄果树瀑布。我认为他们很精彩。

亮点：
本单元的单词课堂设计基本涵盖了本单元的单词和短语。图片教学直观形象，吸引学生的眼球激发他们的兴趣。利用构词法（合成、派生、转换、对比）教学新词，有利于学生正确理解词义、有利于学生记忆，同时也能扩大学生的词汇量。根据课文中的句子，猜测单词含义，是培养学生的语言分析能力。尤其是语义地图能让学生在知识网中联想记忆，同时对不定代词进行总结归纳。当堂检测的设计更是有效地补充与巩固了词汇的用法，突出了对黑体词的检查。
不足之处：
本节课教学容量大，部分学生课前预习不够充分，单词读音掌握不好，上课时读单词的时间把握不好，导致前松后紧，影响教学效果。
使用建议：
1.让这堂课“活”起来的法宝就是采用小组合作学习的方式。无论是在读的环节，还是在识记的阶段，鼓励学生在小组内外开展合作竞争是非常有效的。既能培养学生的参与意识，竞争意识，又能培养团队意识，可谓一举多得。
2.使用课件支撑，提高课堂效率及趣味性。
3.注意时间分配，先让学生会读单词，才能顺利达到识记单词的目的。
