The world around us
I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. improve the ability to use English;
2. improve the ability of thinking and language transfer;
3. do things in cooperative learning groups;
4. know how to design a web page about a certain topic.

II. Teaching contents
1. Searching for related information about a certain topic.
2. Designing a web page in cooperative learning groups.

III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty
Cultivate students’ confidence of learning English and improve students’ motivation to learn English.
Design an interesting, readable and attractive web page.

IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
1. Enjoy some beautiful web pages.
2. Ask the students to have a discussion:
What makes a good web page?
3. Tell the students that today’s task is to design a web page about the world around us.
【设计意图】让学生欣赏网页能给学生带来最直接的感性认识，为学生在网页设计的形式上做些铺垫，同时也能激发学生的设计兴趣和设计灵感。

Step 2 Preparation
1. Get the students to work in groups of four. Brainstorm about the natural world.
2. Present two topics about the natural world:
Disasters and accidents.
Actions which do harm to wild animals.
3. Discuss about disasters and accidents
What kinds of disasters and accidents do you know?
What disaster or accident do you think is the most terrible?
Why do you think so?
How do you protect yourself when it happens?
4. Discuss about different actions which do harm to wild animals
What do people do ?
Why do people do so?
What will happen if people go on doing it?
How should we do to protect wild animals?
【设计意图】引导各个层次的学生参与到教学活动中，经历合作学习和知识建构的过程，从而达到提高自身综合语言运用能力的目标。

Step 3 Writing
1. Get each group to choose a topic.
2. The students search for information and make notes.
3. Help the students design their own web pages, showing some tips:
Read through your notes carefully.
Divide your text into paragraphs.
Put all related ideas in one paragraph.
Use facts to support your ideas.
Write your first draft.
4. Show a sample draft and help the students make their web page better.
Write a heading for each paragraph
Keep your text interesting
Use colours to make your web page attractive
Use pictures and photos
【设计意图】学生既提高了用英语获取信息、处理信息和解决问题的能力，还训练了自身的创造性思维能力。

Step 4 Presentation
1. Some groups show and briefly introduce their web pages.
2. Teacher and the other groups give comments.
【设计意图】作品的演示传递的是创意，作品的欣赏带来的是享受。

Step 5 Summary
1. How to design a web page?
2. How to improve a web page?
【设计意图】引导学生学会思考与总结。

V. Homework
1. Go on improving each group’s web page.
2. Design a web page about the other topic.
