一、How to use Google Effectively?
Google is a search engine used rather commonly. Click the following hyperlink to learn more about google. Besides this site also provide some exercises to make you familiar with what have you just learned. I read through the website below and learned a lot about google .

1. Google Shorcuts
Defination
Google provides shortcuts for finding commonly sought utilities and information, which you may have previously found offline or on specialized sites. The results of these shortcuts appear to the right of a tag or specialized icon and above your search results.
For example, if we want to find the definition of blog, we will use the shortcut: Definitions (Google Glossary)
When you include "define," "what is," or "what are" in your query in front of a word, phrase, or acronym, Google displays one Glossary definition above your search results. Google Glossary provides definitions for words, phrases, and acronyms that Google finds on web pages. The Glossary is good for finding definitions for terms that aren't in some dictionaries, e.g., slang words, technical terms, ethnic words and other specialized terms.

2. File Type Conversion
If you can’t view the page in the native format — for instance, if you don’t have Adobe Acrobat on your computer, or if you want faster access to the file — click on either the “View as HTML” or “View as Text” link.
Note: Portions of some files converted to HTML or text may be difficult to read.

You can use the File Format section of the Advanced Search form or the filetype: search operator to restrict your results to a particular format.

3. Google alerts

It is very accidental for me to notice this function, I found this when I use google scholar to search the term “computer aided translation”.

I notice that there are some notes below the search results. I didn’t pay any attention to that before. So I check the word “cited” in google guide to find its function, then I got google alerts.
Google Alerts are useful to:
· monitor a developing news story
· keep current on a competitor or industry
· learn where you or your company is cited or quoted
· get the latest on a celebrity or event
· keep tabs on your favorite sports teams
· find when people link to your site
· discover new websites on a certain topic

4. Google books
You can search the books with this funcition. This is useful for you to preview the books before you buy them. You can view about 1/3 pages in the book and then make your decisions. Also you can search useful information included in the book without buying which will save your money. If you are determined to buy this book, you will get its author, the press, the version and other important information.

二、聚合搜索
metacrawler：提供涵盖近2 0个主题的目录检索服务， 包括常规检索、高级检索、定制检索、国家或地区的资源检索等。其中， 高级检索模式可实现搜索引擎的选择调用， 基于域名、地区或国家的检索结果过滤， 最长检索时间设置， 每页可显示的和允许每个搜索引擎返回的检索结果数量的设定， 检索结果排序依据(包括相关度、域名、源搜索引擎)设定等。

三、北大电子数据库的使用
1.以使用中文科技期刊数据库为例

2.点击”导航栏”中的”常用资源”
3.在左边的“所有学科“中选择自己所需要的学科，右边就会显示该学科可以用到的数据库，电子期刊，学位论文，电子图书，多媒体教学参考等资源，并且可以按照英文期刊数据库，中文期刊数据库，西文期刊列表，中文期刊列表归类显示。
如果知道数据库，电子期刊，学位论文，电子图书，多媒体教学参考等资源的名称或部分名称的关键字，即可搜索到相应的期刊等资源。
4.进入 中文科技期刊数据库，点“击高级检索“， 输入检索条件 点击”检索“结果如下图

5.点击需要查看的文件名称即可查看或下载文件。

期刊文献查找示例
任务：查找期刊《中国翻译》中一篇关于本地化发展和人才培养的文章，但不知具体发行年份和期数，也忘记了作者。该如何查找呢
首先查找期刊发行版本是否可以找到，大兴校区图书馆有没有。
1.到北大图书馆主页进入期刊数据库查找页面，输入”中国翻译” 选择“期刊名”进行查询。

2.之后进入查询结果页面如下图，这里选择第二项查询结构，由中国翻译工作者协会创办的《中国翻译》，第三项《中国科技翻译》也是常用期刊之一，介绍科技翻译研究成果，提高科技翻译水平，促进机器翻译的研究与应用，介绍国内外翻译界动态。读者为广大科技翻译工作者、大专院校从事科技翻译和研究的师生及科技外语爱好者。

3.点击第二项进入详情查看页面，可以查到此期刊的馆藏位置、收藏期数年限等。

下面查找《中国翻译》发行电子版本
1.进入常用资源的检索页面如下图，在检索框中输入要查找的期刊“中国翻译”，然后选择“按标题”、“电子期刊”和“中文期刊数据库”，点击“检索”。

2.检索结果如下图所示，先选择第一个查询结果。

3.检索结果如下图，可以输入主题，关键词，作者，选择出版年限，越是详细得到的结果也越精确。

5.若只有一个条件则结果较多，需要再次筛选：比如只有一个检索项 “主题”

所以尽可能多的增加检索条件。
6.点击检索结果“本地化和本地化翻译人才培养”可打开如下页面，这里就可以下载阅读和浏览文章的摘要了。

四、国外数据库的使用
1.进入北大资源搜索页面，如下图示，搜索 translation 会出现已下结果
