Step I Revision and lead-in
Check the students’ homework. Let some of the students read their answers one by one．Give
explanations where necessary.
T: You are a reporter of your school newspaper and going to have an interview with your headmaster next week, what should you do? Turn to page 12 and find some guidelines before interviewing someone.
a. Think about what questions to ask and write them down in advance.
b. Write brief notes only, not whole sentences.
(For example: Gym memberships can sometimes be very expensive.→Gym can be expensive.)
c. Make meaningful notes. You need to be able to understand them later.
d. Use contractions and abbreviations whenever possible. For example:

T: If you do not hear or understand an answer, ask the other person to repeat. But be polite when you ask others to repeat. You can use expressions such as:

Step2 Listening
T: Listen to the following radio programme and write short answers to the questions. The first one has been done for you. Before listening, please discuss the following questions freely.
Discuss freely:
• Have you ever moved to a new town or neighbourhood?
• What did you do when you meet your new neighbours? X|k |B| 1 . c|O |m
• What did you talk about when you met your new neighbours for the first time?
• How did you make friends with your new neighbours?
The answers to the listening:
1. Things might worry you when you move to a new place: how to find your way round, meet new people, make friends
2. Ways to meet a new neighbour: visit their homes with a small gift; join a local club or activity group
3. Some things you should do when you meet a person for the first time: be open and honest about yourself; ask him/ her questions about himsel/ herself; actively listen to his/ her words.

T: Now let’s listen to PartB. You are having problems at school with two of your friends. You decide to phone Teen Talk for some advice. Listen to your conversation with Barbara from Teen Talk and fill in the note sheet below. Write down the key words only.

T: Apart from simple Yes and No answers, there are many other expressions that we can use. Who can tell me what they are?

T: Yes, you are clever. Now please open your books to page 14, skills building2: agreeing and disagreeing. We are going to learn more expressions on agreement and disagreement.

T: read the expressions again and again until you can recite them out.

T: Now I’ll divide the class into four groups . Each group discuss one topic, using the above expressions to decide whether you agree or disagree.
1. Friendship is an important part of my life.
2. A good friend must be honest, kind and have a sense of humor.
3. One or two good friends are better than 100 acquaintances.
4. Vegetarians are healthier than people who eat meat.
( Ten minutes later, each group comes to the Bb to show their opinions to the class.)
Step5 Summary & Homework
T: This period we’ve learned how to listen for key words and taking notes. We’ve also learned how express agreement and disagreement in English. After class please read the expressions again and again until you can recite them out. And practice them more, then you can speak English freely and fluently. Tha’s all for today. Class is over.
