Hi, class. Language is something for use, for communication. And language can be learned in use, in communication.
Today we shall learn about the English language in use. We shall learn about English Grammar and English Vocabulary.

1 Talk about you and your friend to your group.
First study the grammar in the box above. Pay attention to the blackened parts.
Now in groups of four talk about you and your friend to your group.
I’m Liu Bing. He's my fiend, Zhang Hai. I’m 12 years old. He's 13 years old. We’re Chinese and we’re in Class Two.
I’m Ju Xin. He's my fiend, Xu Hu. I’m 11 years old. He's 12 years old. We’re Chinese and we’re in Class Two.
I’m Tom. He's my fiend, Smith. I’m 11 years old. He's 13 years old. We’re American and we’re in Class Two.
I’m Yi Lang. He's my fiend, Tian Zhong. I’m 11 years old. He's 12 years old. We’re Japanese and we’re in Class Two.
2 Look at the pictures and complete the sentences.
In the middle of page 6 you see three pictures and five uncompleted sentences. Now Look at the words under the three pictures and complete the five sentences.

Sam’s 12 years old and he’s from England.
Helen isn’t from England. She’s from America.
Is Wang Dong from England? No, he isn’t. He’s from China.
Helen and Wang Dong aren’t 12 years old. They’re 13 years old.
Are Sam and Helen in Class 3? No, they aren’t. They’re in Class 1. Wang Dong is in Class 3.
Now make similar sentences.

3 Is Li Bing from Japan? No, he isn’t. He’s from Vietnam.
4 Mary and Li Bing aren’t 11 years old. They’re 12 years old.
5 Are Smith and Mary in Class 4? No, they aren’t. They’re in Class 2. Li Bing is in Class 4.
