一、知识目标
1）教学生掌握动词规则和不规则的过去式
2) 教学生掌握when引导的时间状语从句和特殊疑问句
3）教学生掌握运用一般过去时描述杰出的人物
二、能力目标
1）听：能听懂谈论杰出人物的对话材料。
2）说：能够谈论杰出人物的事迹。

b.too…to…与never连用:You are never too young to start doing things. “你决不会因为年纪太小而不能做这样的事情。”

第一课时(The First Period) Look, speak and Listen for Section A
一、Teaching process design
Step 1: Warming up and lead in
Greeting and show students some photos of palmary people such as Yao Ming,Den Yaping,Michael Jordan,David Beckham and so on. Lead in with such questions:
T: Who’s that?
S: That’s Yao Ming.
T: What does he do?
S: He is a basketball player.
T: How tall is he?
S: He is 2.26 meters tall.
T: When was he born?
S: (With the help of the teacher) He was born in1980 in Shanghai, China.
T: What should you do if you want to know the details about Yao Ming?
S: We should surf the Internet to look for his more information.( It may elicit various answers.)
Ask students to work in groups to make a list about international sports stars they know in the chart to finish 1a.

Then the teacher focuses on the photos and asks students to listen to the tape and write the year the sport star was born under each photo:

Step 2: Pairwork
Before working in pairs, students should review the information about the four people they admire in 1b. After that, ask students to practice the conversation about Deng Yaping above with the target language. Then follow the sample dialogue to make conversations about the other sports stars:
A: Who’s that?
B: That’s Deng Yaping.
A: What does she do?
B: She is a great Chinese ping-pong player.
A:When was she born?
B:She was born in 1973.
The teacher moves around the classroom and give some help as needed. Ask pairs of students to show their work. Praise them for their excellent work.
Step 3: Look, Listen and Write
2a & 2b provide guided listening and writing practice using the target language. The teacher asks students to look at the chart and be familiar with the content of the chart to make sure they should know what to fill in the chart in 2a. Then ask students to listen to the tape and fill in the “How long” in chart.

Now ask students to listen to the tape again and fill in the “Started” or “Stopped” to finish 2b while they are listening.Then check the answers with students by asking students some questions like this:

Then ask students to list the past forms of the verbs: hiccup--hiccupped,
neeze—sneezed,start—started,stop—stopped. Teach and read them. (Finish 2b)
Step 4: Practice with pair work
Ask students to make a dialogue by asking and answering questions according to the information in activity 2b in order to start oral practice using the target language with the following sample like this:
A: Hello, B. May I ask you some questions about Donna Green?
B: Yes, of course.

A What does Donna Green have world recorder for?
B: She has world recorder for sneezing.
A: How long did she sneeze?
B: She sneezed for ____ years and ____ months.
A: When did she start? And when did she stop?

一、Teaching process design
Step 1: Review and Lead in
Greeting.
Review the usage of the past forms of the verbs. hiccup--hiccupped,
neeze—sneezed,start—started,stop—stopped. Check their homework.Ask students to read their report about a famous sports star. Praise them for their good work.Then lead in with the target language about Charles Smith’s information by asking students:
T:When was he born? S:He was born in 1895.
T:How long did he hiccup? S:He hiccupped for 69 years and five months.
T:When did he start hiccupping? S:He started hiccupping in 1992.
Get students to pay more attention to the changes of verbs. Teach them.
Step 2: Grammar notes
Remind students to pay attention to the past forms of the verbs and the usage of the past forms of the verbs in the sentences:

Step 3: Read and Write
3a provides reading and writing practice using the target language. First divide students into two parts. One part read this article on p55 and fill in as many as they can in the chart, the other part read the article on page 93 and fill in the other chart. All the students works in groups and finish the tasks together. Then the teacher moves around the room and gives support as needed. 一、Teaching process design
Step 1: Lead in
Greeting
First, teach the words—talented , loving, outstanding,unusual, beautiful, creative, kind,famous and explain them. Then ask students to match the picture with one or two words:
Picture 1: Arthur: loving, kind Picture 2: Tony: unusual, outstanding
Picutre 3: Sarah: beautiful, famous Picture 4: Vivan: talented, creative
and take turns to describe the pictures with the words given, and give the reasons,e.g.
I think Arthur is a loving and kind old man because he is holding a little child with a smile.Obviously he loves the child.He is happy to spend all his free time with the child.
And then ask students to describe the other pictures like above.(Finish 1a)
Step 2: Pairwork
Ask students to work in pairs and imagine they know the people in the pictures above, and tell their group about the people :
