Revision
Ask some questions about the vacation, and then teach the new words in this lesson, Finally discuss the questions on page 3. For example,
What did you do during the vacation? How are you? …
The new words are pal, e-pals, dear, who, e-mail, send, etc.
-Do you want an e-pal?
-What do you want to tell an e-pal?
Warm-up
T: Look at the word “e-pal”. Do you know what it means?
S: Yes, it’s someone with whom I regularly exchange e-mail.
T: That’s right. It is also called key-pal. When I was your age, I used to have pen-pals because we didn’t have the Internet at that time. So does anyone in this class have a pen-pal or an e-pal?
Ss: I do. / I don’t.
T: I hope that all of you will someday have e-pals. Having e-pals would be nice. We will talk more about e-pals in Unit 1.
Activity A
Draw the students’ attention to the pictures on the page.
T: We have two pictures on page 2. On the upper left, two boys are talking and on the lower right, two girls are talking. Where are they?
S: The two boys are in the room.
S: The two girls are walking in a hallway.
T: Yes, that’s correct. What do you think the boys are doing?
S: They seem to be talking about writing something on the computer.
T: Skim the first dialogue and try to understand what they are talking about.
T: Now let’s have a look at Words to Use in the box on the left. Which word fits Number 1?
S: Dear Jim.
T: That’s right. We usually start an e-mail or a letter with the word Dear and the name or title of the person to whom we’re writing. So that is what we see on the screen of the computer.
T: Now fill in the rest of the blanks and complete the dialogue.
Activity B
Ask the students to match the separated parts of the sentences to make them correspond to the dialogues in A.
T: Based on the dialogues in A, match the two parts of the sentences.
Have the students read aloud the completed sentences.
Listening
Activity A
Have the students to listen to the dialogue. As they listen, they should fill in the blanks.

Activity B
    Listen again. Who says it? Put a check ( v ) next to the right name.
T: Okay, now identify the speakers of the following expressions and put a check in the boxes.
Activity C
Briefly present a short demonstration by asking one of the students to answer the questions in C. Ask the students to work in pairs.
Model Dialogue.
T: Do you want an e-pal?
S: Yes, I do.
T: What do you want to tell an e-pal?
S: Well, I want to tell my e-pal about my favorite things. / I want to tell her about my town. / I want to tell him about Chinese culture.

T: We have a small blackboard at the bottom right corner of this page. It has Language to Know. When do you use these expressions?

T: When you want to know the reason of someone’s behavior or attitude you can ask this question.

T: This is the simplest way to express your feeling when something good had happened or you are very satisfied.
   Michael is from America.
T: This expression is to say where someone was born or where someone lives.

Getting ready for the new class.
