专八作文星火预测.doc

、一、 校园生活篇 Topic 1 Volunteer Your Time Faced with the question whether it is worthwhile to spend a year or two voluntee¬ring in western China, many college students would probably shake their heads, seeing it as a waste of valuable learning time. Howeve

、r, I will give an affirmative answer without hesitation, because this experience can apparently benefit us in many ways. First, it is a great opportunity for us to apply the knowledge we have acquired at college. Different from temporary part-time jobs, a longer volunteer work experience is

、 truly fulfilling and rewarding. As English majors, we can learn to use and teach the language effectively in real classes; as education majors, we can experiment with those textbook theories in helping manage a school or instruct the younger; those who study engineering can take this chance to turn

、 their ideas and skills into running machines, new bridges and broad roads. From this experience, we will better understand our schoolwork and even build up considerable expertise in our chosen fields. Second, we can gain a great sense of satisfaction by making contributions in an underdeve

、loped region. Right now, the western China is suffering from both the short¬age of resources and that of talents in its course of development. If we can step into the needed roles by simply sacrificing a year or two, we will be able to make some differ¬ence to the situation as a whole. Imagi

、ne how proud you will be when telling your fami¬ly and friends how you have taught the illiterate to read, and how you have helped to change the look of a backward town. Compared with the great sense of pride you feel, a year's time is just a small price to pay. Third,we can establish a

、 deep friendship with local people. On the one hand, if you truly love and help the people you work with, they naturally love and help you back. Take a senior I know for example, who served two months as a teacher in a dry northwestern town. During the period of water shortage, both his students and

、 their parents voluntarily kept water for him, sometimes despite their own need. Recalling his days there, he said they were not easy but he could not help missing them. Probably many volunteers would feel the same as him. While we are giving care, support and help, we often get back more including

、a lasting friendship. Therefore,I will readily sign up to volunteer in the western China despite various challenges I may meet. Think of the differences we can make there and the changes this experience can make to us, why not walk out of the ivory tower and step onto the promising land of

、our country? Topic 2 Should Network Games Be Banned in College? It is a prevailing practice that university students play network games in their spare time for relaxation. Some teachers and parents hold the negative opinion that many students are so o

、bsessed with network games that they play truant, and others even commit a crime for one reason or another. Others don't agree. As far as I am concerned ,the critical point is whether the students can keep a balance between study and games. Some thought that playing network games will cost

、a lot of time and energy, which should otherwise be devoted to their academic study. After all, time is limited for college students and it's the most fundamental duty for them to study and lay a solid foundation in knowledge. And the content of the network games is sometimes violent and bloody, whic

、h is not suitable for students. It is also reported that some students are so addictive to the network games that they even don't go to class and sit in front of the computers all day long. Their worries and considerations are justified, but we should not give up eating for choking. First,

、life in college is not easy. Students have to work hard to learn and at the same time they have much pressure from their parents or others. Playing network games will help them to relax and be immersed in a virtual world. The rest of heart is important in the modern society. Second, students will le

、arn more about team¬work in the network games. People in a team cooperate and help each other to win the game. The experience is vivid and works better than any lecture. Third, students meet different people on the Internet, and learn to get along with them in different ways. It may endow the ve

、ry student with the ability to establish a better personal relationship with other people, which means a lot when they enter the society. To sum up,for university students, the priority should be given to academic study. A poor performance in achievement tests won't make us competitive in t

、he future. But all work no play makes Jack a dull boy. Appropriate rest and relaxation in the network games world will refresh a person and help him to learn something. The college students are all adults, and they know clearly what they should do and what they shouldn't,and have the ability to contr

、ol their behaviors. So they must strike a balance between study and network games, and give due weight to the studies. Children should begin their formal schooling at an early age People have different views on what children should do at a very early age. Some think that children should begin t

、heir formal education and start to spend most of their time on studies. Others believe that it is still time for young children to play. Both views are based on respective ground. Those who argue for the playing time for children suggest that children at a very early age are still too young to f

、ocus their attention on learning. Their brain may not be ready for serious studies such as comprehension and memorizing learning materials. These people are partially right, for it is true that young children can hardly concentrate. Their attention on one thing lasts for no longer than 15 minutes or

、 so. But we can arrange classes for shorter periods, can’t we? And we can shift teaching subjects. Through putting them to study, young children are occupied with learning but not with playing. Those who argue for children’s early commencement for formal education believe that being put to studi

、es, children can develop good habit of studying, for the process of learning helps develop children’s mental abilities like the ability to memorize, the ability to understand and the ability to do simple calculation. Children’s habit of studying and love for learning are of great importance to young

、sters because these two things set up the sound foundation for their future studies. Having children start formal education at a very early age benefits young children much more than simply letting them play most of their time. A good habit needs a long time to develop to become a second nature.

、 More importantly, it is better to develop a good habit before a bad one may grow. Similarly, the love for learning should take toots for before the love for playing is established. Should a person make an important decision alone? A person should never make an important decision alone, import

、ant decisions should be well thought out. People, who know you well, know what is best for you, and close to you can give you good advice, give you a different perspective, or share their own experience. When I had difficulty deciding which classes to take in collage, I talked to my teachers and ad

、visors; they had the knowledge and expertise to help me determine which classes were the best ones to take for my future career. Without their advice, I might have chosen unsuitable courses. In collage, I had convinced myself that I was not good enough to act in the school play. Therefore, I deci

、ded not to audition even though drama had always been my passion. The day of the audition, a friend of mine asked me why I was not auditioning. When I told her I did not feel I was good enough, she was shocked. She was able to provide me with another perspective on myself and my talents. I rethought

、 my decision and tried out….and got a lead in the play. Last year when I was trying to decide whether or not I should study overseas, I talked to my friend. This was the best thing I could have done. This was a big decision for me because I had never been overseas on my own and I was not sure if

、I could do it. She had studied overseas the precious year. She told me about the challenges and opportunities I might encounter and helped me make the right decision. I went and it was amazing. Whenever I am faced with an important decision, I seek advice from others so that I am well-informed an

、d have the benefit of their perspective and experience. My opinion on advertisement Advertisements appear everywhere in modern society. There are many way to advertise and ads come in different forms. Newspapers and billboards carry advertisements; some products are announced on TV and radio w

、hich have a wide audience. Advertising is a big industry and many agencies are set up for furnish a variety of services for it. However, advertising is not welcome sometimes. A most irritating thing is to watch advertisements before and during films on TV. There are so many of them that they mak

、e you forget what you are sitting there for. The ironical thing is that advertisements of one type of things are often shown one after another so that you are confused as to which product you should choose. What’s more, advertising is not always truthful. The advertisers exaggerate the benefits of t

、he merchandise they want to sell in order to gain more profits. Thus the consumers fall victim to such advertising. Although there are disadvantages of ads, we can not forget the advantages and the conveniences they bring to us. First, by telling us where something is available, they may save us

、money and time. They guide us in finding suitable jobs and other information as well. Secondly, a wide range of activities and institutions receive financial support through advertising. Without this support we would have to pay much more for newspapers and sports games. Thirdly, perfect advertiseme

、nts even provide entertainment. A considerable amount of effort goes into their production. So in most cases the photography is truly artistic, the slogans are genuinely witty, and the situations are decidedly funny. Generally speaking, advertisements have become one of the most authoritative voi

、ces speaking to us today. Let us make our life easier by learning to choose proper ads, and be the master of advertisements, not their salve. Providing physical exercises should not be the schools responsibility? While physical exercise is important, I do not believe that it is the school’s res

、ponsibility to provide physical training for its students. That is something that everyone can take care of on his or her own. Many students get plenty of physical exercise as part of their daily life or recreation. A student who bicycles ten miles to and from school does not need more exercise.

、A good physical education program must take a student’s outside activity into consideration. Otherwise, some students will spend valuable class hours repeating physical exercise. If a school offers such activities, it also suggests that students will be graded on them. The range of possible physic

、al activities is great: football, swimming, weight lifting, ballet, ballroom dance, yoga, skiing, horseback riding, and golf are just a few. However, the number of activities that a school could offer is small. Some students could get bad grades in physical education simply because the school could

、not provide an activity they enjoy or do well. This seems unfair. Research suggests that participation, not excellence, in these activities determines the physical benefits the body will get. Another issue is economic. Many schools do not have the money to provide gry facilities, playing fields, a

、nd athletic equipment for their student. Other schools are located in cities where the kind of space just is not available. A few schools would rather keep money for academic purposes. Schools can certainly encourage physical activity. They can provide space for activities, events, and classes for

、 physical activities. They can encourage students to plan time away from academic studies to get some exercise. However, I think that providing exercise should not be the schools responsibility. Old People Should Not be Forced by Law to Retire There has long been a debate about whether old p

、eople should be forced to retire from work at the age of 55 or 60, regardless of不管, 不顾 their own wishes. People in favor of this say that old people, having worked for over thirty years, should not go on working, because physically they are not as strong, healthy and energetic as they used to be, an

、d mentally they are not able to endure the same pressure of having to work to earn a living as young people are. Personally, I do not agree with this point of view for the following reasons: First, it seems to me that no one should be forced to change his/her lifestyle unless he/she has commi

、tted a crime犯罪. People, whether they are old or young, should have the right to decide their own way of life. Just as young people can choose to stop working and enjoy their leisure time as long as they can make ends meet, old people should also be allowed to continue working, provided that they are

、 still qualified for their jobs. Second, there are many jobs that are especially suitable for old people, such as jobs that call for more experience and wisdom than physical power. With their rich experience in both work and life, many old people would make good consultants, instructors, coac

、hes, doctors and psychologists, to mention only a few. Last but not least, some old people do not go on working simply for economic reasons. It seems to them that there is more to work than just making money. They simply enjoy working as an indispensable不可缺少的 part of their lives. Some of them

、 even develop various mental and physical problems after retiring from work, and it seems that the best way to keep them in good healthe and high spirits is to allow them to keep working. All in all总而言之, I believe that not only should old people's physical conditions be taken into considerati

、on but also their psychological needs should be respected. Therefore, letting them do whatever they are fond and capable of doing will make them much happier than forcing them to stay isolated from society and endure loneliness in their twilight 黄昏的 years. What Is the Most Appealing Feature of a Jo

、b? What is the most appealing吸引人的 feature of a job? Some people claim that it is a high salary that makes a job appealing. Others believe that job satisfaction or being useful to society is more important. In my opinion, although a high wage is by no means决不 unimportant, job satisfaction has
