I never took an English course but I used my time effectively and studied English all the time. But actually, the most powerful reas
11、on for me to learn English is my hobby ---music. I have loved music since I was 5 years old, especially English language songs. But I didn't have much money to buy all the cassettes that I wanted. 15、there is no difficulty in understanding a whole article. However, I realized the problems in such a method back then. With more confidence I began to read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I had thought it would be easy, but I ended up extremely frustrated. Admittedly, Mark Twain did a really
16、wonderful job and didn’t use too many difficult words (except for those passages written in dialect), yet I found it hard to concentrate continuously on the plot---new words just kept cutting in. I kept losing my train of thought. I was able to figure out the meaning of each sentence without a dicti
17、onary, but my progress was so slow. One passage was not clear, let alone a chapter or even the whole book. It seems my “reading unit” was too small. Then how could I improve it? Soon after I gave up Huck I got my first issue of 21st Century Teens, and within a few weeks I realized it’s what I neede
18、d. To be able to handle long reading materials (a novel, for instance), one must learn to ignore details so as to grasp its theme, and try to think in English. Both tasks require a lot of extensive reading. Therefore, from the very beginning I regarded 21st Century Teens as a way to train my Eng
19、lish thought progress, rather than to learn words or patterns, which, I believe, doesn’t demand much attention. One will remember a word “automatically” after several encounters. Thus it began---my friendship with the paper. I will never know exactly how I benefited from Teens, but that hardly mat
20、ters. After all, by the end of the semester I finished Huck and moved on to Robinson Crusoe and Harry Potter. I always believe a dictionary, however large it is, won’t produce an expert in English, for language must not only be learned but also used. And 21st Century Teens seems to provide an ideal
