In recent years, extravagance and waste have become increasingly serious in some of the university campus. We can see that papers, bottles and cans are thrown away after use; food is wasted just because of its poor taste; clothes are discarded simply owing to their old fashion. As a consequence, people in mounting numbers put great emphasis on creating a green campus.
There are at least two criteria to distinguish what is green campus. On the one hand, natural resources must be conserved and made full use of, for example, we, as college students, should take the wise use of papers and second-hand textbooks into account. On the other hand, education to build up thrift habits must be promoted by relevant departments and professionals at various levels.
Accordingly, it is necessary for us to take effective steps. For one thing, university authorities should respond with the demand for more rigid conservation of our natural resources, such as water, electricity, and so on. For another, we should enhance the awareness of college students that creating a green campus is of utmost significance to both our society and ourselves.

　　I think this view is not entirely right. Directions: For this part, you are allowed thirty minutes to write a composition on the topic Recreational activities. You should write at least 120 words and you should base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

2. 娱乐活动可以使人们受益，也可能有危害性
3. 作为大学生我们的看法
奥运年的第一次四级考试已经淡淡地结束了，这淡淡地”一词主要体现在其写作部分，它没有命制地震、奥运以及限塑令相关的内容，而这一点早已经在我的意料之中了，因为四六级考试的作文部分与考研的政治不同，它不会考查时政热点的内容。这次四级作文的话题内容是娱乐活动。
至于考题类型，严格地说它是属于议论文当中的“权衡利弊”考题。在这儿，我有必要为同学们屡清一下四六级写作考题的类型，以避免同学备考时迷茫。四六级考试的写作部分按大类分为三个类型：议论文、应用文、记叙文。而， 其又分为①综合评述（原因、因素、影响、措施）、②正反论述（两种不同观点：一些人认为……；另外一些人认为……）、③权衡利弊（事物有好和坏的一面，如 何看待）、④择优比较（两个事物进行选择，选择最好的一个）、⑤谚语警句（阐述某个谚语警句）；而应用文又分为书信letter和一般应用文（如 poster、announcement）；记叙文则分为纯记叙文和夹叙夹议的文章。
权衡利弊类型的文章之前在四级中一共就出现过两次：93年1月关于运动的积极因素和消极因素；96年1月关于双休日的好处和问题，而六级考试则没考查过这个类型。我在美森强化班和冲刺班都曾重点讲解过此类题型的段落布局和关键句型。
权衡利弊类作文的段落布局：
段落布局：
第一段：引出谈论的事物及话题
第二段：①任何事物都有两个方面 ②分清主次地列明优点与缺点
第三段：表明自己的观点
在 表达任何事物都有两个方面的时候有一个很重要而常见的句型：Everything has two sides just like a coin and is no exception. 此外，在描述事物优点与缺点时，同学不要忘了要使用结构性连接词，比如on the contrary等。
其 次，就话题内容而言，在描述娱乐活动益处时，我敢说美森的学员肯定都能够张口就来：enrich our lives, broaden our horizons, and cultivate our mind（丰富人们生活、开拓人们视野、陶冶人们的情操）。而关于娱乐活动的表达，同学也应该不断地运用课上讲过的“娱乐”进行同义词替换： entertainment/ recreational/amusement activities. 最后，我再强调一下文章的第一段，它的写法要突出“新”字，就这篇作文而言，内容要点中已经指出“各种各样”，因此，我们可以采用举例法来开始。

With the dramatic development of our society and our living standard, there are a variety of recreational activities coming to our lives. Some may go to KTV with their friends on weekends to get relaxed after five-day intense work. Meanwhile, others might choose to surf the internet to kill time and appreciate vast resources on the internet.
Everything has two sides just like a coin, and entertainment is no exception. On the one hand, amusement activities can enrich our lives, broaden our horizon, and cultivate our mind. On the other hand, we could wasted and our mind contaminated if we fail to approach recreation properly.
As far as college students are concerned, we are supposed to take advantage of the benefits from diverse entertainment activities. In addition, it is essential to be self-disciplined and steer clear of the adverse influences.

　　备受瞩目的07年12月四级考试作文题目已经悄然地揭开了面纱，是关于大学生选课的综合评述类议论文。美森教育的四级强化班上，我提出了这次四级考试作文的类型四大重点之一就是阐述现象原因影响等的综合评述类议论文。而考前一周的冲刺班上我又将四大重点缩减到综合论述和夹叙夹议的两大黄金题型。如果纵观历年四六级考试作文类型，综合评论是出现频率最高的题型，因为这类题型最容易接近热点，测试学生综合写作能力的。而四级而言，从03年之后只出现过一次这类题型，因此此次题型的回归对于深入研究四级考试的人来说是不难预测的。
　　这次四级作文的命题话题十分接近于06年6月24日新四级的作文话题，都是围绕大学校园的课程。所以说，这次四级写作的话题不难，学生是有思路，有话可说。那么，文章的段落布局将会是决定写作成败的关键之处。
　　综合评述类议论文也是要符合四级考试写作要求，三段式的，同时内容要点就可以看作是分段点，即第一段写第一点，第二段写第二点，第三段完成第三点。不过，每一段的写作方法是有要求的：
　　第一段，即议论文当中的引言段，要引入文章所谈论的话题“多种多样的选修课”
　　第二段，即议论文当中的主体段，谈论文章讨论的分论点，即“选择不同选修课的各种原因”
　　第三段，即议论文当中的结论段，总结文章，表达观点，即“以自己为例……”
　　最后，我要强调的是，同学在写第一段(引言段)时，一定要突出“异”字，引入话题的方法要力求新颖，和他人不同，给阅卷老师以新鲜感。比如说，对于此次作文，第一段中存在“多种多样”，那么我们就可以尝试用举例法来引入话题。再者，第二段阐述原因时切忌直接展开原因的论述，而要先“引入”，再展开阐述。
　　Elective courses to choose
　　With the remarkable educational reform and the increasing students’ demand, universities strive to offer a variety of elective courses for students to choose. Some higher institutes provide the optional course of cross-cultural communication, and some colleges have computer science on the curriculum of elective courses
　　There are numerous reasons for students’ selection of the courses, and I would like to explore a few of the most significant ones here. In the first place, students tend to take personal interest into consideration when they opt for an elective course. Possibly, that’s why cross-cultural communication course is so prevailing on campus. Additionally, some undergraduates attend certain optional courses for their career prospects and future development. Last but not least, to make up for their required credits is another universal reason as students select a course at random.
As far as I am concerned, picking up an elective course, I am inclined to give priority to personal interest. I am taking geographic research and discovery course in that I’ve been greatly keen on science since I was a kid.
