There are new findings that not enough sleep may cause people to gain weight. Researchers say a lack of sleep can produce hormonal(激素的) changes that increase feelings of hunger.

The scientists say these hormonal changes may be a cause of obesity in Western societies. They note the combination that sleep limitation is common and food is widely available.
The results were not affected by how much people exercised. People who are awake longer have more time to burn energy. But the researchers say loss of sleep may increase hunger especially for high-calorie foods, so people gain weight. It seems that, for survival, the body may be designed to store more fat during times with less sleep.
Researchers from Stanford University in California and the University of Wisconsin did the study. They found that the best amount of sleep for weight control is 7.7 hours a night.

People seem to always love themselves. When put to a test, we are willing to go an extra mile for our friends.
In an experiment, people were asked to squat (深蹲) against a wall, which became increasingly painful with time. They were told to keep squatting for as long as they could, and paid 1 dollar for every second. People performed the exercise five times, once for themselves and four times for their friends or partners.
The result paints a more selfless picture of society than we might expect these days. Of the 17 people, ten squatted longer for their friends or partners. Some people squatted twice as long for their closest friends as for themselves.
Dr Freya Harrison said, "I think that if our results stand in general and people really do go the extra mile for close friends, it points to the importance of cooperation in our species. It suggests that keeping social relationships and ' working together have been important roles in the success of humans as a species."
A study found people were unwilling to squat any longer for their brothers or sisters than for themselves. "Maybe that's because friends are a lot more important in deciding social benefits than brothers and sisters，" Dr Harrison said. Perhaps we can depend on help from parents or brothers and sisters because people almost have no reason for helping someone who has the same genes (基因) as them.

The iPhone, the iPad, each of Apple’s products sounds cool and has become a fad(一时的风尚). Apple has cleverly taken advantage of the power of the letter “i” – and many other brands are following suit. The BBC’s iPlayer – which allows Web users to watch TV programs on the Internet –adopted the title in 2008 A lovely bear – popular in the US and UK – that plays music and video is called “iTeddy”. A slimmed-down version of London’s Independent newspaper was launched last week under the name “i”.
In general, single-letter prefixes have been popular since the 1990s, when terms such as e-mail and e-commerce first came into use.
Most “i” products are targeted at young people and considering the major readers of Independent’s “i”, it’s no surprise that they’ve selected this fashionable name.
But it’s hard to see what’s so special about the letter “i”. Why not use “a”, “b”, or “c” instead? Accordi
