　　On the Importance of a Name

　　A name is the representation of a person or an entity. It plays an important role in social recognition, just as the old saying goes: a thing is the entity of a name. However, people have diverse opinions on the importance of a name. Some people say that name is important, while the others maintain the other way round. But I think name is of great importance because it is the symbol that distinguishes one thing or person from the others.

　　We cannot deny the importance of a name, be it for a person or a thing. In the world today, no one can live without identification because they must get social recognition, and name is the symbol of the identification. Once a person or a thing gets social recognition, people will remember their names, and they will get further improvement. Besides, a good name will bring people some nice association. A person with a special name may be easily accepted by a group or a community because of the deep impression the name leaves.

　　As for companies or products, a name is also vitally important. Years ago, a computer company spent millions of dollars for the name “Acer”. Since then, the company caught the attention of potential customers and became one of giants in the field. However, another company was facing bankruptcy, for the name of its product implies unfavorable meaning thus cannot be sold out. Can we say that name is not important?

　　A name may affect the whole life of a person, and a name may also influence the future of a company and its products. Therefore, we must treat names carefully.

First of all, I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to share with you my experience on passing CET-4. Secondly, please allow me to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to my English teacher, Miss Pan. Without her help, it would be impossible for me to pass CET-4 with the highest mark in our department.
   To get fully prepared for CET-4, you first need to enlarge your vocabulary. The best way to acquire a well-rounded vocabulary is by reading. Meanwhile, you will not only build up your vocabulary, but also learn sentence structures, and most important of all, improve your reading speed of skills. Besides your textbooks, you may also read newspapers, novels, and even magazines. Second, you should practice writing constantly. Keeping English diaries is a good way to improve writing. Remember practice makes perfect. In addition, improving listening could be and entertaining experience if you make use of English songs and English movies. Last but not least, you need some exercise, especially some model tests, to improve your test skills.
     In a word, every effort is rewarding. Your hard work now will yield sweet fruits one day. Thank you again for your time and attention.

 As illustrate in the pie chart, when asked how to spend their spare time, most university students choose to surf online or do part-time job. Those who have the habit of reading belong to the minority. Why is the reading of books the decline among university students?
     Students don’t read books because they don’t have to. The Internet is a main distraction. University students use computers to write reports and can put together a passable or even decent report by downloading necessary information. They don’t need to read books. Moreover, the tendency to emphasize practical education and de-emphasize liberal education adds fuel to the fire. By working part-time, students gain pocket money and, more importantly, some working experience which could be and edge over other students in the tight job market.
      However, the perilous drop in readership results in the declining scholastic ability of university students. What’s more, university students in increasing numbers graduate with certificates of qualifying exams, but they are not necessarily men or women of knowledge.
      In my mind’s eye, the significance of reading can never be over-evaluated. Form reading we can derive knowledge, experience, and enjoyment. Therefore, it’s of great importance for university students to cultivate a habit of reading.

      As is shown in the chart, online shopping enjoys a phenomenal growth over the five years, with more than 1.3 million Chinese having shopped online in the last 12 months in contrast to just 100,000 in 2001. obviously, recent years have witnessed and upsurge of interest in online shopping.
      The expanding popularity of online purchase can be boiled down to a number of reasons. Firstly, prices are often lower online. What’s more, the Internet broadens one’s shopping options like never before. Now, with only a few clicks of a mouse, one can go online to buy just about anything you need or want. Most importantly, shopping on the Internet is quick and convenient. One can get all his shopping done without leaving the comfort of home and it is no riskier than buying by mail order or on the phone.
       I, myself, am a regular online shopper. There are some tips on making a deal on the Internet safely and wisely. First, look for websites that have a secure way of paying. Second, make sure you know all the details about the purchase and save all the information related to your order. 
   4.Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay entitled Balance Leisure and Major. You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below in Chinese:
1.现代社会还有一些大学生一心只读书，没有任何的业余的爱好。

3.建议劳逸结合、适当发展健康的兴趣。 
      Nowadays, there are still some students spending most of their time studying an having no hobbies. Fully engaged in academic work, those students have anything but spare time for physical exercise, relaxation and activities that match their interests.
      Admittedly, by enrolling at college we’ve already made a commitment to study. However, college is a place to expand one’s knowledge and one’s interests. All work and no play is a sure recipe for unhappiness. Besides, we attend college not only to learn but also to explore. Making friends is one of the best things about college. If not taking time to socialize and meet new people in college, we may graduate with a straight A record only to find we’ve lost the best opportunity to make life-long friends and develop social communication skills. Last but not least, physical fitness is the prerequisite of a rewarding college life. If burnt out with heavy class load and homework, how can one lead and enjoyable and healthy life?
       Therefore, it highly suggested that university students should strike a good balance between school work and a healthy social life. Firstly, try to set aside some time each day to rest and relax. What’s more, your academic schedule allowing, apply for an internship in a field that interest you, which can help you choose a prospective career, in addition to giving you valuable contact and real-world experience.
