I was very lucky ─ I even went to a wedding. It was very different from a Chinese wedding. For example, the man and the woman can’t see each other the night before the wedding. Then the woman mustn’t arrive at the church on time but a few minutes late. And at the party after the wedding, the woman throws her flowers over her shoulder. The girl who catches them will be the next to get married! It was all very strange but it was great fun!

Turtles in Malaysia are still quite common. That is to say, they are still to be found in the wild. There are two kinds of turtles in Malaysia: land and marine（海生的） turtles. There are 7 species of marine turtles in the world. Four of them lay their eggs on the Malaysian beaches. These are: the leaderback turtles, hawksbill turtle, olive ridley turtle and the green turtle.
In West Malaysia, there is a long sand beach. From June to August every year, giant turtles come to the beach to lay eggs. They appear only late at night to lay their eggs in holes. They dig these holes with their hind flippers.
When they have finished laying their eggs, they fill up the holes with sand and return to the sea. The mother turtles never see their babies. The hot sun keeps the eggs warm and until they hatch（孵化）. Then the baby turtles will go back to the sea to begin their new lives. In the past, many people came to dig up the eggs after the mother turtles had left. They took the eggs to town to sell.
Since 1962, the Malaysian government has built high fences around the sand beach to stop anyone from digging turtle eggs, because people are afraid that there will be fewer and fewer turtles there.

Advertisements are an important part of our lives. We are so used to them that we often do not even realize how many we see and hear in a day!
What is an advertisement?
An advertisement provides information and uses creative languages and attractive pictures to encourage people to buy a product or service or believe in an idea. Newspapers, magazines, the Internet, radios and televisions are the most places to find advertisements. There are two main types of advertisements：commercial advertisements and public service advertisements (PSAs). A commercial advertisement is one which someone has paid for to promote a product or service. PSAs are often placed for free, and are used to educate people about health, safety, or any other issue which affects public welfare.
Does an advertisement tell people the complete truth?
China has strong laws to protect people from advertisements that lie or try to make people believe untrue promises about products or services. However, we still must be careful with the methods(方法) used in advertisements to try and sell us things. Even if an ad does not lie, it does not mean it tells you the complete truth. One toothpaste ad says 'Bright-teeth fights bad breath!' The advertisers want you to read the word 'fights' and think that the toothpaste cures bad breath, but it does not say that! All it says is that it fights it and that is not the same thing at all. One supermarket tells buyers, 'You are proud of your cooking, so shouldn't you buy the freshest food?' This one is very clever, because it tells buyers that they are good cooks. However, the ad never says that this supermarket has the freshest food! They just hope that you read the ad, you will feel good about what it says and remember the words 'freshest food' and then buy it in the supermarket. We must not fall for this kind of trick!
Public service advertisements
Not all ads play tricks on us though. PSAs use some of the same methods, but they are made to serve the public. PSAs are meant to teach us and help us lead better lives. You have probably seen or heard some of them yourself, like 'Yes to life, no to drugs' and 'Knowledge changes life'. These ads deal with large social issues. There are also PSAs that educate people about public service projects, such as Project Hope. All of these ads are meant to be helpful, and you can often learn a lot by following the advice they give.
Try to remember: think about why you should do or buy the things the ad suggests. We all want to be smart about what we believe, so be smart about advertisements

Beggars are often seen sitting by the side of a street with heads bowed as people pass them by. Some ask people passing by for a small amount of money and some just sit and wait to be given money. A few use aggressive behaviour to earn money.
To solve the problem of aggressive begging, an “alternative giving ”  plan has been suggested. Ten blue money boxes will be placed in busy places such as the market and the railway station. It aims to encourage people not to give money directly to beggars but instead to give generously to local homeless causes.
Supporters of this plan think it will be an effective way to solve the beggars’ alcohol and drug problems. But the police oppose the plan arguing that beggars who do not receive cash may turn to criminality to feed their addictions. The homeless charity “Crisis” said the success of any plan will depend on its style. They think that imaginative and positive plans can help create local understanding and sympathy instead of hardness. Most of the beggars dislike the plan because they think they will not get enough money from the boxes for their showers, food and clothes.
Begging is a big social problem both in developing and developed countries. Governments must play a big role in solving this problem. Training beggars to work and helping them to find appropriate jobs is one option. This is especially true for developing countries where many low-skill jobs exist.
The general community should also be educated to see beggars not as dirty and dangerous, but as people who need understanding and help.
