人们说，伟大的作品值得我们反复阅读吟咏，而且，随着时间的流逝和人生履历的增厚而觉愈久弥新。《远大前程》就是这样一部伟大的作品，作为一部煌煌巨制，烛照我们平凡的人生。我们的前程，是否也会因远大而成为一部伟大的作品呢。
皮普是一个孤儿，没读什么书，他在一个偏僻的小村里面由他粗俗的姐姐和善良的姐夫养大。他不可能有什么远大的理想，他觉得能学会姐夫的铁匠功夫就是人生的成功。但是有一天，他觉得他的理想渺小和卑微。一个偶然的机会，他结识了美丽的富家小姐艾斯黛拉，她成为了他超越的目标。如果不能超越艾斯黛拉，他将永无跟他结婚的希望。可是，她给他的却是羞辱、嘲笑和谎言。皮普的前程很渺茫。
机会来了，有位神秘人物资助皮普去了伦敦，并且进入了伦敦的上流社会圈子。他接受了礼仪交际的教育，有了一些所谓上流圈子朋友，他拿钱挥霍，加入人们认为高不可攀的俱乐部；当然，他还经常去看望他喜爱的艾斯黛拉，并嫉妒和她来往密切的龌龊乡绅。他远离了家乡的姐夫姐姐，他厌恶了那种粗俗的乡村生活，但他又找不到自己在伦敦到底拥有什么。他仍然没能获取艾斯黛拉的芳心。

远大前程，那个曾经难以企及的高度，如今于皮普的价值与意义何在。皮普的远大前程与其说是对繁华世俗的追求倒不如说他的终极梦想就是那个自小一直萦绕心中的艾斯黛拉。人生的目标其实也就可以这么简单，但是达成这个简单的目标，却差不多耗尽了皮普赖以存活于世的力量和良知。
繁华已逝，铅华落尽，皮普与艾斯黛拉最终重逢，不过都由起点又回到起点。“确实她的青春艳丽已经消逝，然而她那难以言表的端庄华丽，她那难以言表的迷人妩媚却依旧当年。”虽然“夜雾正开始消散，广阔的静寂沉浸在月色之中”，但，他们人生的线条有否交点。也许是的。不过现实远非如此，现实总跟远大前程既非平行，也可能永远没有交点。经常如此；甚至，从来如此。

读了19世纪英国作家狄更斯的长篇小说《远大前程》，颇有感慨。
《远大前程》讲述的是出身穷苦的皮普从小父母双亡，和脾气暴躁的姐姐生活在一起，他的姐夫乔是一个忠厚老实的铁匠，处处关爱着皮普。小时的皮普被镇上一位富有的老小姐郝维辛雇为她的养女艾斯苔拉的玩伴，皮普爱上了漂亮而又冷漠高贵的艾斯苔拉，从此努力学习，以做一个配得上艾斯苔拉的“上等人”。正在这时，郝维辛小姐的律师找到了皮普，说有一个神秘的人给了皮普一大笔财产，让他成为一个绅士。皮普接受了这笔财产，来到了伦敦，开始了跻身上流社会的生活。但艾斯苔拉的若即若离和她最后对皮普的抛弃以及神秘人的现身改变了这一切。神秘人是皮普小时救助过的一个逃犯，刚开始皮普对逃犯充满了厌恶，但皮普逐渐被逃犯的纯真善良所打动，决定帮助被通缉的他逃出国外。然而，逃脱计划被逃犯旧时的仇人所获，逃犯被警察抓获，皮普的财产也被充公。前程和理想就此破灭的皮普后来到了国外打工，十几年后又回到了乔的身边，并偶遇同样饱经沧桑的艾斯苔拉。
贯穿《远大前程》的哲学思想是不同的环境会造就人的不同性格。皮普之所以想当一个“上等人”是由于周围环境的变化，而后来他对
乔的冷漠甚至厌恶也都是由周边环境所引起的。小说从这一点告诉人们，人心很容易受世俗的影响而沦丧，因此拥有一颗高尚纯洁的心灵比拥有财富和地位更加难能可贵。小说中的英国社会处于19世纪，而此时的社会财富受工业革命的影响迅速膨胀。工业资本的出现增大了财富对人的诱惑，也拉大了社会，尤其是城市和乡村之间的贫富差距。毫无疑问，狄更斯笔下的这种社会处处透漏着悲观的气息：粗俗残忍、不学无术的恶棍可以通过继承和剥削得到财富成为“上等人”，而善良朴实的乔，劳碌一生也只能在简陋的乡村做铁匠；相信纯真爱情的郝维辛小姐掉入结婚陷阱，钱财被一卷而空；四处诈骗、恶贯满盈的骗子可以利用法律的漏洞屡次逍遥法外，而心地善良的逃犯却因没受过教育屡次为人所迫，遭到陷害，最后病死狱中。作者用这样的种种事例，批判了社会的不公和黑暗。而作为当时工业社会财富和资本象征的伦敦，在狄更斯笔下更是灰暗、拥挤、肮脏的。狭窄的街道，落满煤渣的旅馆，灰暗的天空，肮脏的监狱，无不代表着工业社会的黑暗与罪恶。相反，乔和幼时皮普所住的乡下，在作者笔下虽然简陋，却向来是阳光明媚、鸟语花香。小说中的乡村和憨厚的乔，代表着人心灵的纯真善良，而在结尾处皮普的回归，也寄托着作者对于人心的美好愿望。
《远大前程》并不是一篇教育性很强的小说，作者也没有试图通过这篇小说呈现给读者什么大道理，但这篇小说依然值得我们去认真思考。经济迅猛发展中的中国，其社会和作者笔下的英国社会相比，虽然不同，却有许多相似之处，比如收入差距和城乡差距巨大；社会
财富迅速积累从而引发拜金浪潮等等。而在现实生活中，幻想“远大前程”的“皮普”们无处不在，甚至有时就是我们自己。在金钱的诱惑下，许多人都梦想着能一夜暴富或一夜成名，从而跻身社会的“上层”。然而在争取着看似锦绣的“远大前程”之时，有多少人丢掉了心中原有的那份纯真和善良。又有多少人会为了自己的“前程”而去同流合污，说违心的话，做违心的事。当见过了“世面”、获得了成功、成为一个“上等人”之后，我们是否会嫌弃“土里土气”的“乡巴佬”，哪怕对方曾经有恩于自己。我们又是否会因为怕有损自己颜面而不愿再回到自己破旧简陋的故乡。在目前的中国，有些人或许会认为有了财富，自然也就会有了一切，因为钱是万能的。但读过《远大前程》后我们可以发现，富有时的皮普过的却并不幸福：他无法获得艾斯苔拉对他的真爱；他整日为了尽早成为一个真正的“绅士”而参加各种无聊的活动，心灵却因缺少了乔对他的关爱而渐渐空虚。《远大前程》告诉我们，金钱买不来爱情，也买不来幸福。丧失财产之后一无所有的皮普明白了这个道理，于是重拾了他那颗纯真善良的心，回到了简陋的乡下，过上了简单幸福的生活。比金钱和“远大前程”更为宝贵的，是一颗单纯善良的心，而且拜金潮愈是凶猛，这颗心愈是能体现出人性的美好。它或许不能给人们带来灯红酒绿的生活或崇高的社会地位，但它能使生活充满人性的光辉。而人性的光辉，恰恰是生活中最为珍贵的财富。

说来惭愧，这是我第一次阅读狄更斯的作品。依着以前的习惯，在翻阅前，我查找了他的生平背景。1822年，狄更斯不满10岁，父亲从查塔姆镇调回伦敦工作，全家搬到伦敦。正如十九世纪许多从乡村外省向大都市迁徙的作家一样，这次迁徙想必对狄更斯有着非同寻常的意义。而在本书中，主人公pip也从一个小小的村庄搬到了大都市居住，一定是有着dickens自己的生活背景在内，这也与他总是将自身经历带入文学作品的风格极为相符。
第一次受到触动，是在看到pip受尽欺侮的时候，我一向认为，当一个民族没有了自主的思想，就没有了希望。同样，我坚持相信，精神上的打击、轻视、孤立远远比肉体上的折磨、痛觉神经上的蹂躏要来的沉重的多。一直知道，这种近乎歧视的对待，在世界的各个角落并不少见，但dickens偏偏将这种受创的感觉描写的如此细腻而直击人心，杂陈五味。
第八章里，作者写道。“艾丝黛娜"一眼也不看我，傲慢得似乎把我当成一条可怜的小狗。我如此地丢脸，如此地伤心，如此地遭她冷眼，如此地受辱，既愤怒又难过。我找不到一个恰当的词来形容内心所受到的痛苦，也许只有上天才会知道。这痛苦使我的双眼中涌出一股泪水。就在眼泪要夺眶而出时，她望了我一眼，仿佛知道了流泪的原因和她有关，不禁喜形于色。正因为此，这倒反而给了我力量，强忍住不让眼泪再流出，并且望着她。于是，她轻视地把头高高抬起，离开了我。我想，也许她过于自信，以为伤透了我的心。”
这一段，实属受轻视的代表，艾丝黛娜对与作者堪称悲惨的童年（精神上的），无疑占据了一块庞大的阴影。但也许是我还不够有悟性，至今我也并没有理解为何pip后来爱上了艾丝黛娜，并爱的那么深，甚至放弃了一直友善对他，并受过帮助的比蒂。也许是因为艾丝黛娜很漂亮、很有魅力，这一点谁都不能否认。但是，她的高傲，她的轻视，她对世事的淡漠及冰封的感情，相信pip并不是毫无所察。第33章里说到：“而我仍旧痴呆地站在那里，傻乎乎地默望看房子，心想，假如我和她一起住在这里将会多么幸福。然而我明明知道，如果和她在一起我将永远得不到幸福，得到的永远只是不幸。”是啊，pip早就领悟到了这一点，但还是沦陷了，为什么。仅仅是因为他一直一厢情愿的认为他是被选中留下来和艾丝黛娜在一起的吗。
