2、在旅行的时候，你就觉得生活非常有趣
另外对我很重要的开放思想的一个方面就是旅行和艺术。我在大学的时候就经常旅行，经常做背包旅行，去世界各地行走。我在年轻的时候，也经常画画。当我开始旅行的时候，我也是只是把我看到的东西画下来。我觉得这不仅让我的眼光更加开阔，我看到不同的景色，包括在中国也看到非常有趣的事物，同时它也帮助我更好地了解自己。
我来解释一下，我举一个例子。我在1988年花了六个星期的时间独自到中国进行了背包旅行，在甘肃、新疆和陕西花了许多时间。在那个时候，我的中文并不是特别好，词汇量有限，也不认识中国字。我经常花很长时间坐火车，坐这种硬座来旅行。在那个时候，那个座真的是很硬，而且火车也是非常拥挤的。我要跟大家分享一下，我当时画的一个速写，就是在我当时乘坐的车厢里的乘客。我有很多时间来画这个速写，因为我坐在火车的水槽上十个小时，因为那里没有地方可以坐了。我在旅行的时候，我就住在很普通的地方，有很多的历险，对于我来讲是非常有意义的。因为我更好地了解了自己，我的力量在哪里，我的弱点、我的恐惧在哪里，我哪些是需要克服的，这是一个非常重要的部分。不仅是让你的眼界更宽阔了，而且是更好地了解自己。在旅行的时候，你就觉得生活非常有趣。
3、科技让我们的技能提升了
之后我发现这些事情也会在生活中很有用的。比如在2003年的时候，我们有sars（严重急性呼吸系统综合症），在新加坡有这个sars（严重急性呼吸系统综合症）。那个时候我是在卫生部，我有这样一个责任来带领我们的公共服务部门来对抗sars（严重急性呼吸系统综合症）。那我在过去的背包旅行中所积累起来的一些经验帮助我能够足够坚强，足够坚韧来应对这样一种不确定性，而且让我成为一个比较得力的领导。这个对于目前是非常重要的，对于未来则会更加重要。对于我们来说并不知道未来会是什么样子，那么我想来提一两点，关于未来并涉及一些你们在追求教育过程中有可能想了解的问题，其中一点就是未来的技术可以允许普通人，就像你和我，能够做更多的事情。科技可以提高我们的能力，比如我画画不错，可是我拍照很不好。有的时候你看我照相的时候可能没有聚焦啊，然后有些脑袋可能没有照全。可是我的太太呢，她是非常好的一个摄影师，当我们旅行的时候，她能够拍出非常美的照片。我给你们看两张照片，在右边是我拍的，在左边是我太太拍的。由于我的太太今天不在场，所以我可以非常安全地说，我拍的照片比我太太的要好，但你不要告诉她。为什么是这样呢。为什么我能比她拍得更好呢。这是因为我用了一个非常好的相机。技术让一个拍照不好的人能够成为一个中等以上的一个摄影师。所以现在科技让我们的技能提升了，从创造艺术到机器人手术，所以很多人都能做到中等以上的能力。当然这也意味着你要想真正擅长某一件事情，你必须得是非常好才能够引人注目。
我觉得另一个令年轻人兴奋的是技术以及一个新的商业模式，也能够让年轻人可以来追逐新的点子。你可以来建立起自己的起步公司，你不一定非得加入一个大的公司。所以你相信这个想法的话，有很多的工具你都可以来用。这也就意味着说其它类型的商业变得更加地竞争激烈了。我们所学习的这重要的一课不论是在学校还是工作，就是我们要不断地改变才能够保持自己的竞争力。
4、打破你内心的局限
那么我要回到一个我在巴基斯坦旅行时的故事。在1993年的时候，我和我的太太做背包旅行。有一天我们来到一座桥，正如你们所见，我们看到这座桥就是几个柱子，用两尺一磅的柱子去固定一条铁线，那我们看到有一些柱子已经是掉下来了。坦白说，我真是有点迷惑和害怕，我在想我要不要过这个桥，或者我从旁边绕过去，看上去走旁边比较好。所以当时我就在这个河边走，开始走了一两步，然后忽然在我后面来了一个非常年轻的当地女孩，她当时就是跑过这座桥，她的背后背着一大包的土豆。所以当时我就觉得不好意思了，所以我走得快了一些，好像不够男子汉的气息，等走了差不多一半的时候我发觉还不会太难。那么你可以看到，在走的时候你可以看到这个河在下面是一个非常好的景色。那么当然我们等会儿还要再回来，再走同样的桥，那对我们已经不是什么大问题了，就不必担心害怕了。所以那一天我就学习克服我自己头脑里面的局限。我们头脑里面的局限限制了我们认为能做到的事。那么遇到情况我就想，做这个太危险了，可能会失败，但是我们需要去克服自己头脑里面的局限，这样将来我们才能做更大胆的、更大的事情。
我们能够捕捉未来新的机遇，所以非常重要的，特别是对年轻人来说我们应该要学习怎么能够克服我们自己头脑里面的这种局限，这样我们才能做重要的事情。做一些对你非常重要的事情，同时来追寻将来更好的机遇。然后我想谈论的是在这个未来我们需要抓住机遇。教育会变得更加重要，我们对于教育、对看法，应该被看待得一样重要。第一个是我们所谓的经验式学习，从真正的经验中学习。而经验式学习可以立足于现代学校，你可以醉心于到海外旅行，也可以穿梭在杂乱的人群中。任何可以使你跨越你过往轨迹的事情，它令你挑战自己，它让你有能力认识自己。第二点是全球化教育，有个全球化视野，我们有相关的真实生活。
学习这个时代需要什么，在这个世界上可以被应用的。当然最重要的一点是终身教育，去学习怎样跨越规则，创造你的生活。我希望你跟我一样都能够克服你自己的头脑里面的一些局限，使得你能够做更大的，更大胆的事情。追求未来的机遇但不只是对未来的反应，而且要为塑造未来做出贡献，为人类创造更好的将来。谢谢。
