Thanks for your last letter. It’s great that you want to improve your Chinese. I’d be happy to give you some advice.
The best thing you can do is start a course in Chinese. There are lots of schools in Canada which offer lessons by qualified teachers. Try to make friends with a native Chinese speaker and practise what you learn in class with him / her.
It would also be a good idea to read Chinese magazines or books, and watch films and TV programs in Chinese as this would give you a lot of useful practice.
Naturally, from now on I expect you to write to me in Chinese as much as you can. If you follow my advice, I’m sure your Chinese will improve gradually. Good luck!

One of my strengths is the ability to communicate with others.
I’m good at dealing with people because they really listen to me. For example, I am the monitor of my class and I am able to convince the other students to change their points of view on a few issues. As a result, we made some changes to our class. After school, I help out in a store run by my mother where I serve the customers very well. And I am always praised by them.
My dream job certainly includes working with people. I hope to become a teacher in the future because I’ll be able to use my communication skills.

What does friendship mean to you? For some, friends are just the ones whom they go out and have fun with. For me, however, the ideal friendship is much more than that.
Firstly, a true friend should be honest and trustworthy. Without these characteristics, you cannot have a good relationship with anyone.
Secondly, it is important to share similar interests with your friends. It would be very difficult to keep a friendship going if the two people had nothing in common.
Thirdly, an ideal friend is the one whom you can turn to in times of trouble. Friendship is not only about having a good time, but giving support whenever it is needed.

To show our love for them, let’s begin with small things. Don’t shout at them even if they don’t support your choices. Talk to them patiently and respectfully. Don’t stay out late playing computer games, leaving them at home worrying about you. Try to perform better at school, because that’s the way you let them know you are trying hard for your future.

I am a senior high school student from China. I think stress is unavoidable as the pace of life continues to increase.
In China, high school workloads are heavy and grades are very important for us. Apart from pressure from exams, we also experience pressures from our parents. They not only want to see good grades, but also want to see success in life’s other areas Relationships with other students can sometimes become a huge cause of stress. It may be related to dress, behavior, choice of friends or music, and many other areas of life.

The most precious thing in my room is a couplet of Chinese calligraphy. The writer is my grandfather’s friend. He gave it to me as a birthday gift.
I have valued this couplet so much because of its inspiring words. It says, “No one can control the length of life, but we can decide its width.” And what impresses me is that the writer really puts the spirit of this motto into practice, even in his eighties. He paints all the time and has published a collection of paintings. To me, such a classic from this honorable elderly man is not merely a work of art, but a true inspiration to study hard to improve and enrich my life.
