Some people don’t understand team spirit properly. They think team spirit means having to become an official member of an organization, team or fan club. In fact, team spirit can be built anywhere-between friends, coworkers or even between two people sitting next to each other. You don’t have to be wearing the team spirit clothes. Anyone can show team spirit just by showing support for the goal.

Do you send messages on your cell phone? Do you e-mail your friends？Do you chat on the Internet? Then you are part of the language revolution （革命）. Computers and technology are changing the language. When people type on the computer or send cell phone messages, they usually want to do it quickly.
An e-mail is an electronic mail. You send it to people from a computer. E-mails don’t have a long history. The world lived without e-mails for a very long time. People used faxes or the post office to send letters. Now , we can send e-mails ,and things are much faster. We all need e-mails because they are easy, and almost everyone has access to the Internet.
Since people send e-mails, they don’t write any more. Regular mail is slower than e-mail, and people call it “snail mail”. A snail is a very slow creature, as regular mail is slow, too. People don’t write letters any more, and it is sad. People like to receive letters because it shows the time and care of the letter writer. It is mice to receive a kind letter from a friend. You can keep letters in a pretty box and read them again later. You can also keep e-mails, but most people just erase them. Also, people don’t try to write well in e-mails. They just write short messages. E-mails are helpful, but we miss old-fashioned letters too.

Soon computers and other machines will be able to remember you by looking at your eyes! The program works because everyone's eyes are different. So in the future you won't have to remember a number when you want to use a machine or take money out of a bank. You'll just have to look at the machine and it will be able to tell who you are.
       The eye-recognition (眼睛识别) program has already been tested in shops and banks in the USA, Britain, Spain, Italy  and Turkey. Soon, this technology (技术) will take the place of all other ways of finding out who people are. 
       However, scientists are working on other systems (系统). Machines will soon be able to know you from the shape of your face or hand or even your smell! We already have machines that can tell who you are from your voice or the mark that made by your finger.
       Eye-recognition is better than other kinds because your eyes don't change as you get older and get dirty like hands or fingers. And even twins have different eyes, so the program can be up to 94％ correct, depending on how good the technology is. However, some other programs may be 51％ correct at present.. In  Britain, it was found that 91％ of people who had tried it said that they liked
the idea of eye-recognition.

More than 50,000,000 people live in the rainforests of the world and most of them do not hurt the forest they live in. They eat the fruits that grow on the forest trees, but they do not cut them down. They kill some animals to eat, but they do not destroy them. If we cut down the rainforests, we will destroy these forest people, too. In 1900, there were 1,000,000 forest people in the Amazon forest. In 1980, there were only 200,000.
The Yanimami live along the rivers of the rainforest in the north of Brazil. They have lived in the forest for about 10,000 years and they use more than 2,000 different plants for food . But in the later 1950s, some strangers came and began looking for gold . They cut down the forest to make roads. They made more than a hundred airports. The Yanimami people lost land and food. Many died because new diseases came to the forest with the strangers. The Yanomami people tried to save their forest, because it was their home. But the people who wanted gold were stronger.
Many forest people try to save their forests. Chico Mendes was famous in Brazil because he wanted to keep the forest for his people. “I want the Amazon forest to help all of us-forest people Brazil, and all the earth,” he said. A few months later, in December 1988, people who wanted to cut down the forest killed Chico Mendes.
In Borneo, people were cutting down the forest of the Penan people to sell the wood. The Penan people tried to save their rainforest. They made blockades (堵塞) across the roads into the forest. In 1987, they closed fifteen roads for eight months. No one cut down any trees during that time. In Panama, the Kuna people saved their forest. They made a forest park which tourists pay to visit. The Gravious people of Brazil use the forest, but they protect it as well. They find and sell the Brazil nuts(坚果) which grow on the forest trees.

Recycling is one of the best environmental success stories of the late 20th century. Recycling means using things again, and not wasting things like plastic(塑料), paper, and glass. But we could do more. It should not just be a popular thing to do—we need to do it.
　 The Japanese are very good at recycling because they live in a very small place with a lot of people in it. They do not want to share that small amount of space with rubbish. But even so, the Tokyo area alone is thought to have three million tons of rubbish right now.
　 In Japan, some cities give children recycled paper in return for collecting newspapers for recycling.
　 In Rockford, a city in Illinois, the USA, the government chooses one house each week and checks its rubbish. If the rubbish does not have any newspapers or mental drink cans, then that house gets a prize of at least $1,000.

　 Over half the things we throw away could be recycled. That means we could recycle 10 times as much as we do now.
　 However, recycling needs a lot of planning and special machines. Also, there is not much use for some recycled things. People need to think of more ways to use things they recycle.

Malls are popular places for Americans to go. Some people spend so much time at malls that they are called mall rats.
People like malls for many reasons. They don’t feel any danger around them because malls have police stations or private security guards. Parking is usually free, and the weather inside is always fine. The newest malls have beautiful rest areas with waterfalls and large green trees.

Some people even get their daily exercise by doing the new sport , mall walking. Others go to malls to meet friends. In some malls, people can see a doctor or a dentist and even attend church.
