教材分析
This lesson is on reading. It will take me two periods to finish the passage. This lesson is the first period of the two. This class involves warming up, pre-reading, reading and comprehending. The main part is reading. By analyzing the theory of Big Bang scientifically, the writer draws a conclusion about the origin of life on the earth and the evolution. As the only passage about astronomy, it is long and abstract. There are many professional nouns and noun clauses, especially subject clauses. The sentence structures are complicated, which makes it difficult for the students to understand. So how to improve the students’ reading skills and arouse their interest in astronomy is of great importance.
学情分析
The students are all from the countryside. Although they have got some basic information through the Internet, television and daily study, they are lack of the knowledge of astronomy. And the origin of life, the formation of the universe and astronomy are topics that students are interested in, which can arouse the students’ great interest in studying and exploring astronomy.
As students of Grade One in Senior High School, they have a certain ability to read and many students can understand the main content of the passage. But there are still some students who lack reading skills and have difficulty in understanding. So the teacher’s guidance is needed.

教学策略与 设计说明
According to the English Curriculum Standard, ordinary high school English Curriculum should help students build a good language base on the basis of compulsory education. While further improving students’ basic language ability, we should focus on improving their ability to obtain information and information processing as well as the ability to analyse and settle problems to create necessary conditions for their further study and development. Considering this and our school teaching practice, I will mainly adopt the Problem-based learning and the teaching model of independent exploration, cooperation and communication, thus forming our own teaching model to create highly effective English teaching. First, lead in the topic of this unit by letting the students watch a video on Global Astronomy Month and read an introduction about the current scientific theories on how the universe began. After that, let them watch a short video about the solar system and match the English words with the eight planets in the solar system.
Ask the students to finish the exercises prepared for the reading.
Overall understanding. Let the students listen to the tape and sum up the main idea of each paragraph. After that, lead the students to draw a conclusion about the main idea of the whole passage.
Detailed understanding.
Stage 1: The development of the earth
Deal with the multiple choice and lead the students to pick out the key words.
Stage 2. The development of life.
1. Let the students read the text and the illustrations and answer the questions.
2. Let the students pick out the key words and put the order of development of life into a timeline.
Ask the students to retell the evolution of life on the earth.
Let the students watch a video about global warming and discuss what the future of the earth will be like.
Watch the videos, match the English words with the eight planets in the solar system and have a brief discussion about the well-known Chinese legend on the formation of the universe and how human beings came into existence.
Read the passage and finish the exercises.
Listen to the tape and sum up the main idea of each paragraph; draw a conclusion about the main idea of the whole passage
Finish the multiple choice and find the key words of the development of the earth.
Read the text and the illustrations and answer the questions.
Pick out the key words and put the order of development of life into a timeline.
Discuss with other group members and retell the evolution of life on the earth.

These activities can help to arouse students’ interest in the vast universe, activate their background knowledge and warm up for the study of the passage. Besides, it can also mobilize students’ existing knowledge reserve.
This is a process for real thinking. The students should not only think about the problems, but also write down the answers.
The purpose is to lead the students to read the passage fast, help them develop the skill of skimming so that they can grasp the main idea while reading. This exercise can deepen their understanding of the text and develop their ability of summarizing the main idea.
This is mainly for developing students’ ability of searching for and taking notes of the key words.
These exercises are designed to cultivate students’ ability of deep understanding and strict logical analysis ability. The purpose is to cultivate the students’ ability of scanning and looking for details. What’s more, it can cultivate the students' Reading Comprehension so that they can adopt proper strategies to make clear of the text context.
It aims to develop students’ ability of speaking.
This is an expansion of their thoughts which can continue the theme of the passage and cultivate the students’ ability of exploring, cooperating and communicating as well as achieve the emotional education objective.

本节课完成了教学目标的任务，学生掌握了文章的主要内容，基本达到了期望的水平。课堂上教学视频的应用能极大地吸引学生的注意力，提高学生的学习兴趣。结合图片展示关键词直观形象，更有利于学生记忆单词。 大多数学生能在教师的指导下运用阅读技巧完成阅读任务，但是学生的口头表达能力明显不足，口语水平较差而且不太自信。学生的概括能力也有待提高。知识树形式的板书能结构分明的概括本节课的内容，便于学生记忆，以后可以多加利用。如果重新上这节课，我会多设计一些适合小组活动的任务，更好地发挥小组学习的优势，也要注意让课堂气氛更活跃一些。
