Marco Polo, the famous Italian traveler, traveled a long way to China in the 13th century. During his stay in China, he saw many wonderful things. One of the things he discovered was that the Chinese used paper money. In Western countries, people didn’t use paper money until 15th century. However people in China began to use paper money in the 7th century.
A Chinese man called CaiLun invented paper almost 2,OOOyears ago. He put these pieces of paper together and made them in a book.
Now paper comes from trees. We use a lot of paper every day. If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth. If there are no trees, there will be no paper. So how can we save paper? We can use both sides of every piece of paper, especially when we are making notes. We can choose drinking in bottles instead of those in paper packets. We can also use handkerchiefs and not paper ones. When we go shopping, we can use fewer paper bags. If the shop assistant does give you a paper bag, we can save it and reuse it later.

Last Tuesday after school I went to see Andrew’s new house. He lived in an apartment not far from our school. There was a beautiful garden with a lot of trees and flowers across from the apartment building. We walked to the third floor and Andrew opened the door with the key around his neck. As we came into the living room we took off our hats and jackets. The living room was not large but the blue wallpaper made it seem bigger than it was. I saw a big bookcase next to the sofa, a mirror and three pictures on the walls. I looked at the clock on the wall. It said four o’clock.
Then we went to Andrew’s room, which was behind the living room and next to his parents’ room. There was a wardrobe near the window and next to it was his desk with a lot of exercise books on it. There was nothing in the middle of the room, and we could even play games with a ball there. I liked Andrew’s chair very much. It was near the door and was very large and nice.
Andrew’s mother wasn’t at home. We went into the kitchen to have dinner. We warmed the soup and took some cold meat and vegetables from the fridge. There was some bread on the dining table and we had it with milk. Everything was very delicious. We did the dishes after the meal. At half past six I left. I think Andrew’s new house is very nice.

We spent a day in the country and picked a lot of flowers. Our car was full of flowers inside! On the way home we had to stop at traffic lights , and there my wife saw the bookshelf. The police car stopped at our village church (教堂) . One of the offices came to me. "Right, sir, " he said. "Do you need any more help now?" I didn't quite understand . "Thanks, officer, " I said . "You've been very kind. I lived just down the road. " He was looking at our things: first at the flowers, then at the bookshelf. "Well, Well, " he said and laughed . "It's a bookshelf you've got there ! We thought it was -er, something else . " My wife began to laugh . Suddenly I understood why the police drove here . I smiled at the officer. "Yes, it's a bookshelf, but thanks again." I drove home as fast as I could .
