TO MY MOTHERLAND
Good afternoon, distinguished judges, teachers and students! It’s my great honor to be given the chance to enter for this contest. Today my topic is “To My Motherland”.
In my heart there is a most beautiful place,its name is CHINA. In my heart there is a most great country, its name is CHINA.
China is my motherland, of course, it’s our motherland. It’s a gorgeous landscape, which is made up of big mountains, long rivers, singing birds and sweet flowers. It’s a beautiful piece of music ,which sings the praises of her brave and hard-working people. It’s also a wonderful book which tells the whole world various kinds of meaningful stories Seventy-seven years ago, a group of unscrupulous bandits broke into our home, they killed our children, burnt our houses and raped our women, they trampled on our land, they tried to perish our race, but they failed. Because it is not so easy to defeat such a country. We traded
thirty-five million living lives for our motherland＇s independence, which is great shame that we Chinese
should never forget. Today I am so proud to see she has become prosperous and strong .When the Shenzhou series of spacecraft flying into space, when the aircraft carrier of Liaoning carrying our army reinforcing dream swimming in the sea, When the national flag rose slowly again and again on different kinds of international P.E. competitions. We can see a powerful motherland standing out among the nations of the world.
I have a friend, his name is Huang Hanyu, an overseas Chinese. He told me that when he set foot on the earth of the motherland, He felt an unprecedented sense of belonging, when he saw the large cloth banners saying “Welcome Back Home” ,”Welcome to HuaQiao University” and so on, he said he burst into tears because he felt the love of people inland. That made me think of a Chinese poem, Why there are always tears in my eyes, because I love this land deeply and passionately.”
As a university student, I have a dream that some day, I can go to America to study. The day when I set my foot on the other side of the sea, I will show all the American friends around me the profound Chinese
culture with my own behaviors. I will tell them the Great Wall is not only a place of interest, but also the witness of Chinese power. I will tell them Mount tai is not just a mountain, it’s also a symbol of Chinese glory. I will tell them China is no longer the same country that used to be poor and backward. I will tell them Chinese people＇s contribution to the world peace, what’s more, I’d like to make more and more Americans know about our long history and our splendid cultural connotation.
Yes, dream is only a dream. As the saying goes, “The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step.” I still have a long way to go to realize my dream. I know it clearly that the first thing I have to do is to make full use of my time in university to aquire knowledge and skills for the construction of our country. Dear motherland, I love you, I am so proud of being a son of yours.
