In order to lose weight, it is necessary to understand the importance of calories and how to calculate(计算) the amount of calories required for your body to lose weight. In weight loss, your diet plays 80% role for achieving the ideal results.
Most people take part in different weight loss programs with the hope of losing weight. However, have you ever stopped to ask yourself what helps people to lose weight? Climate Change Video Contest
    The National Environmental Education Foundation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are working together to bring you this video contest about climate change.

    Your video should describe how climate change affects you, your family, your friends, and your community now or in the future. Be cool! Be creative! Use storytelling or anything that explains the steps you’re taking, or could take to reduce carbon pollution and prepare for a changing climate.

If a polar bear tells you to talk to the hand, don’t be surprised. The animals seem to communicate with each other through scent trails(气味痕迹) left by their paws. As they walk across the snowy Arctic, polar bears are usually alone. In the past, people noticed that polar bears sometimes smelled the footprints of other bears. Could there be chemical information hidden in their tracks?
Researchers gathered scent samples from the feet of 203 wild polar bears. All of the samples were taken in spring, when polar bears produce young. To get each bear’s scent, researchers rubbed a cotton cloth between its toes. Then they went to zoos and tested 28 zoo polar bears to see how they responded to the foot scents of strange bears. In case(以防) the toe clothes from the wild bears carried any disease, the researchers spread each scent sample onto a piece of cardboard and put it inside a little wooden box. The bears could smell and approach the boxes, but they couldn’t touch the samples directly.
In general, bears were more interested in foot scents from the opposite sex(性别). They were more likely to approach the scent boxes in spring than in fall.
Judging by the zoo bears’ special interest in scents from the opposite sex, it seems that polar bears use foot smells to track down potential(潜在的) mates. By following a set of attractive footprints, a lonely polar bear can find itself a partner and make more polar bears. But this will only work as long as the sea ice that bears walk across is unbroken. The more it melts, the more bears’ trails will be incomplete. As a result, they will have no one’s feet to smell but their own.
