(1) I often quarrel about my mother over whether I can watch TV after school. She holds the view which senior three students have to make fully use of every minute to work hard at their lessons. It seems to me that once I am allowed to do that, I'll unable to control myself and forget all about my study. She also thinks it is good for my eyes. But I really can't accept her ideas. In my opinion, watch TV can put myself at ease, especially after a day's hard work. Beside, it is important for me to know what has happened at home and at abroad. Thus, we shouldn't be forbid to watch TV.
(2) One evening two young men were walking in the street. They tried to find a chance to steal everything. The clock strikes twelve. Most people were in bed. Quickly they came to a house so it seemed that everyone in the house had fallen sleep. Standing at the front gate, one man whispered in English to the other at a low voice, “You wait here. I will go around to the front door and then get into the house.” Suddenly out of the house ran a dog, barked at them. The two men were very afraid and ran away as fast as possibly. They didn't stop until they had got to a lonely place. One man said to the other in surprise, “It's too bad. I had thought that the dog could understand English.”
(3) Last Sunday my father and I went fishing along a river. We found the water very dirty that we could hardly catch any fish in it. A lot of factories along the river always poured their waste water and rubbish straightly into the river, which made the river polluting. In this way most of the fish in the river was killed. Unless the rivers all over the country are polluted like this, no living things will be exist in the water. As we all know, environmental pollution do great harm to living things. Now more and more people have realized what serious this problem is. Our government is doing her best to take measure to fight against pollution. We expect that water in every river will be made cleaner and cleaner before long.
(4) Dear Mike，
This summer I will go to study at the London University but I don't know how to adapt myself for the new life.
I hear that many freshmen are at loss what to do when they are in a new country. Feel lonely and homesick, they find it much harder to get use to the new culture, diet and climate. Most of them can't take well care of themselves in their everyday life. Beside，it is difficult to find a satisfied host. It is more difficult to fully understand what the teachers teach in class though they speak English all the time.
Could you tell me how to deal with these problem so that I will be able to suit the university life in the future?

(5) Every morning Steve went to work by train. As he has a long trip, he always buys newspaper. It helps make the time passing more quickly. One Tuesday morning, he turned over the sports page. He wanted to see the report about an important football match the night before. The report was so interesting that he forgot to get off at his station. He did not know it unless he saw the sea. He got off at the next station, but had to wait a long time for a train to go back. It was no doubt that he arrived late at the office. His boss was angry when Steve told to him why he was late. “Work is very important than football！” he shouted.
(6) I worried about the missed bag all the evening.I tried to remember exact what I had done from the time I left the store until at the time I got home. I remembered whether I had looked at the bag while I was having lunch. So I must have it when I left the store. I remembered show it to a friend on the bus. But I had the bag then.I came directly from the bus to my house, and I must have forgotten it on the bus.I was in hurry to get off and forgot to check the packages lying on the floor.I should be much careful next time.
(7) Dear Mr. Smith，
It has been almost a month since you returned home. We all miss you and very grateful for what you do for us. During your stay, you made the classes live and interesting.I'll never forget a class you giving us.You offered several topics with us to discuss and encouraged us to choose one we were interested in. Then you divided us into group and let us collect materials all by ourselves. We took an active part in a class. As a result, we learned how to think it on our own and do research by myself.

(8) This term our school offer more than 10 courses, from what we can choose.All of us take greatly interest in them. Our most favorite are English songs, speaking English, arts and so on. Some say they have learned a lot that is not teaching in textbooks and they have got lot of practice. They hope more courses will be offered so their homework should be less. Thus, they can gain all kinds of knowledges and learn more about what is going ahead in the world.
(9) Half a year before, I went abroad for further study. I received a lot of present. All were wrapped in color paper. Among them were two presents which were really interested me. My sister buy me a book with color pictures about body language and with words about customs of different countries in them. My brother gave me a note, which read, “My present has put in your bedroom.” While I hurried into my bedroom, I found a box in it. Open the box, I got a pocket computer. I was very glad. I understood these two presents would help me using body language to communicate people and improve my English.
(10) Sinology (汉学) is becoming popular for more and more people in recently years.Some school offer courses on Sinology and various lectures and competitions about Sinology are held by some TV stations.Why do so much people learn Sinology？First of all, Sinology is the basic of Chinese culture.By learning it our traditional virtues can be passed down for generations.Beside, we can gain lots of knowledge and know what to deal with different things and people.We can also develop a sense of responsibility toward the others and society by learning Sinology.
In all, learning Sinology will make our traditional culture know by people all over the world.
