Safety is very important . In schools , however , accidents often happen , so there must be people at school who know how to do first aid .
First aid is help that you give to someone who has suddenly fallen ill or who has had an accident . You don’t have to be a doctor or a nurse .Anyone can be a first aider (that ‘s someone who knows first aid .) , but in most schools , the only first aiders are teachers . There are a lot more children than teachers in any school , so why not teach the children first aid ?
That’s exactly what we’ve done in my own school . The school ‘s team of first aiders now has 32 members , some as young as 11 , who know what to do when someone is in danger Every year , nurses from a local hospital teach our children the necessary skills to save lives .Children are taught what to do , for example , if a friend of theirs has a headache . They know how to clean and cover a cut if someone hurts themselves doing sport . They also know what to do if someone is in real danger .
