Around the world more and more people are taking part in dangerous sports and activities. Of course, there have always been people who have looked for adventure — those who have climbed the highest mountains, travelled into unknown parts of the world or sailed in small boats across the greatest oceans. Now, however, there are people who try to find an immediate thrill from a risky activity which may only last a few minutes or even seconds.
I would consider bungee jumping to be a good example of such an activity. You jump from a high place (perhaps a bridge or a hot-air balloon ) 200 metres above the ground with an elastic (有弹性的) rope tied to your ankles (脚踝). You fall at up to 150 kilometres an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground. Other activities which most people would say are as risky as bungee jumping include jumping from tall buildings and diving into the sea from the top of high cliffs(峭壁).
Why do people take part in such activities as these? Some psychologists (心理学家) suggest that it is because life in modem societies has become safe and boring. Life, according to many people, offers little excitement. They live and work safely and comfortably. The answer for some of these people is to try to find danger in activities such as bungee jumping.

We often think of the future. We often wonder what the world will be like in a hundred years’ time.
Think of space, perhaps a permanent(永久的) station on the moon will have been set up. Perhaps people will be able to visit the moon as tourists. Cheap rockets for space travel will have been developed, permitting long journeys throughout the solar system (太阳系). When that time comes, people will be taking vacations in space and visiting other planets. Great progress will have been made in medicine, too. Perhaps a cure will have been discovered for the most terrible of all diseases cancer. Pollution is a problem we must solve. In a hundred years’ time it will have been controlled.
All the world will have been developed — even Antarctica. There will be large cities in Antarctica. We already have supersonic (超高速的) flight, but in a hundred years’ time, we will have supersonic land travel as well.
We will have used up most of the earth’s land to build our cities, so floating (漂浮的) cities willhave been built. The Japanese already have plans for cities of this kind. And there will be cities under the sea. The first of these will have been completed.

V. One possible version:
Body language is part of the way in which we communicate. But not all body language means the same thing in different countries.
Take China and America for example. “Stamping one’s foot”, in China, simply shows one’s anger, while it means impatience. “Clapping hands”never happens to an American speaker, because it is considered immodest in his own country. In China, however, it suggests the speaker’s appreciation and means “thank you”. “Staring at people” too long is thought as impoliteness in America. It may make people feel uneasy or uncomfortable. But Chinese people may think it is nothing more than curiosity.
These examples may show the differences of body language.
