The National Beekeeping Centre Wales is a free attraction in the countryside that teaches children about the importance of honeybees – with the chance to try lots of local honeys.
This friendly visitor centre is a supporter of Welsh honeybees, which are increasingly under threat from climate change and loss of wildflower meadows. Getting here
We are located just off the A470 on the Bodnant Estate in the Conwy Valley, and 10 minutes from the A55 north Wales coast road. Follow the brown signs just after Bodnant Gardens.
Value for money
Visits and activities for kids are free, though donations are welcome. Taster days (from £60) and the weekend beekeeping course (£80 per person) are held at Abergwyngregyn village, 10 miles west down the A55.

One Utah mom is facing charges after she left her 8-year- old son with special needs at Jordan Valley Medical Center, claiming she was tired of his calling her names and pulling his pants down in public.
Sherrer, 36, who has three other kids （also with special needs）, said she was making use of Utah's Safe Haven law: parents can drop off a baby up to three days anonymously（匿名地） at a hospital with no questions asked or consequences.
"I thought that it was okay that we could drop them off and it was a safe place," Sherrer said, according to KSL News. "I don't think I'm necessarily a bad mother. The World Health Organization recently said that it planned to add gaming disorder to its new list of disease classifications, angering the gaming industry but pleasing doctors who hope it may make treatment more easily available.
Some US experts said it would make little difference when it comes to helping people with the disorder, although others said it would bring attention to a disorder that people sometimes don’t recognize.
Many of us enjoy video games, but does playing our favorite game for a couple of hours every night mean we’re suffering from gaming disorder? Not according to the WHO.
The symptoms listed by the WHO include a lack of control over gaming, treating gaming more seriously than other life interests and daily activities, and continuing to play games despite the negative consequences that playing them might have.
“The behavior pattern is enough to result in significant damage to one’s personal, family, or social life, the WHO said.
Meanwhile, Douglas Gentile of Iowa State University has carried out influential research into the cause of gaming addiction in young people.
“I and many others had assumed that gaming is not really a problem but is a symptom of other problems,” he told NBC News. Many had thought it was simply a failure of self-control.
To see if it was, Gentile’s team studied a group of children who had been gaming for several years.
“We found that when kids became addicted, their anxiety increased … and their grades decreased,” Gentile said.
When kids were able to back off from gaming, their symptoms disappeared, he added.
Gentile thinks medical organizations should pay attention to the WHO’s proposal.
“This isn’t an issue of opinion; it’s an issue of science,” he said.
“This is a major scientific and medical organization. They don’t do things lightly and without reason.”
Dr Petros Levounis, chair of psychiatry (精神病学) at the New Jersey Medical School at Rutgers University, said that he hoped the WHO’ s proposal would lead to more research into obsessive behavior among all types of people.
“Now, there is renewed interest and excitement,” he said.

People feel good about recycling, maybe even more so when it comes to electronics. While electronics recycling isn't bad, making it a panacea(万能药) for the e-waste problem we currently have certainly is. Unfortunately, that's how we think of recycling — and companies to jump on that trend to appear more “green”.
A case in point: Apple. In 2016, there was lots of report on Liam, a robot able to dismantle(拆卸) an iPhone in just 11 seconds — a good way to recycle 1.2 million units a year. That sounds amazing until you take into account the fact that Apple had actually sold 231 million new iPhones the year before. Liam, actually, is the perfect symbol for recycling in the field of high-tech: a drop of green water in an ocean of pollution.
According to a recent UN report, the US produces about 6.3 million tons or 14% of the world's electronic waste. Worldwide, almost 45 million tons of electronic waste were produced in 2016. Among them, only 20% had been recycled in some shape or form. The remaining 80% made its way to a more environmentally damaging end at the landfill(垃圾填埋场).
Of course, we can say it's time to double our recycling efforts. However, the huge amount of e-waste is impossible to cope with. The UN report points out that while there is an increased focus on recycling today compared to the past, the effort to reuse used devices simply can't keep pace with the high consumption rates for new devices.
In their environmental responsibility report, Apple admits that 77% of the carbon footprint of their electronics comes from their manufacture, versus(相对于) 17% comes from its actual use. The environmental effect of replacing a device, even if it is recycled after, remains significant.
