I told you yesterday and the day before yesterday,' he shouted, 'Mr Lane was defeated in the elections. He has retired f

8、rom political life and gone to live abroad !' ' I know,' answered Crawley,' but I love to hear you say it !'    Lesson84 On strike 罢工 Busmen have decided to go on strike next week. The strike is due to begin on Tuesday. No one knows how long it will last. The busmen have stated that the strike will

9、continue until general agreement is reached about pay and working conditions. Most people believe that the strike will last for at least a week. Many owners of private cars are going to offer 'free rides' to people on their way to work. This will relieve pressure on the trains to some extent. Meanwh

10、ile, a number of university students have volunteered to drive buses while the strike lasts. All the young men are expert drivers, but before they drive any of the buses, they will have to pass a special test. The students are going to take the test in two days' time. Even so, people are going to fi

11、nd it difficult to get to work. But so far, the public has expressed its gratitude to the students in letters to the Press. Only one or two people have objected that the students will drive too fast!   Lesson85 Never too old to learn 活到老学到老 I have just received a letter from my old school informing

12、me that my former head- master, Mr Regmald Page, will be retiring next week. Pupils of the school, old and new, will be sending him a present to mark the occasion. All those who have contributed towards the gift will sign their names in a large album which will be sent to the headmaster's home. We s

13、hall all remember Mr Page for his patience and understanding and for the kindly encouragement he gave us when we went so unwillingly to school. A great many former pupils will be attending a farewell dinner in his honour next Thursday. It is a curious coincidence that the day before his retirement,

14、Mr Page will have been teaching for a total of forty years. After he has retired, he will devote himself to gardening. For him, this will be an entirely new hobby. But this does not matter, for, as he has often remarked, one is never too old to learn.    Lesson86 Out of control 失控 As the man tried t

15、o swing the speed-boat round, the steering-wheel came away in his hands. He waved desperately to his companion, who had been water-skiing for the last fifteen minutes. Both men had hardly had time to realize what was happening when they were thrown violent1y into the sea. The speed-boat had struck a

16、 buoy, but it continued to move very quickly across the water. Both men had just begun to swim towards the shore. when they noticed with dismay that the speed-boat was moving in a circle. It now came straight towards them at tremendous speed. In less than a minute, it roared past them only a few fee

They had just had enough time to swim out of danger when the boat again completed a circle. On this occasion, however, it had slowed down considerably. The petrol had nearly all been

As it is, they have been drilling for sixteen hours and they still have a long way to go. Meanwhile, a microphone, which was lowered into the mine two hours ago, has enabled the men to k

24、eep in touch with the closest relatives. Though they are running out of food and drink, the men are cheerful and confident that they will get out soon. They have been told that rescue operations are progressing smoothly. If they knew how difficult it was to drill through the hard rock, they would lo

When the news got round that a variety show would be presented at our local cinema by the P. and U. Bird Seed Company, we all rushed to see it. We had to queue for hours to get in and t

The officer in the control tower was very angry when he heard the news, because balloons can be a great danger to aircraft. He said that s

33、omeone might by spying on the station and the pilot was ordered to keep track of the strange object. The pilot managed to circle the balloon for some time. He could make out three men in a basket under it and one of them was holding field-glasses. When the balloon was over the station, the pilot saw

34、 one of the men taking photographs. Soon afterwards, the balloon began to descend and it landed near an airfield. The police were called in, but they could not arrest anyone, for the basket contained two Members of Parliament and the Commanding Officer of the station! As the Commanding Officer expla

35、ined later, one half of the station did not know what the other half was doing !    Lesson92 Asking for trouble 自找麻烦 It must have been about two in the morning when I returned home. I tried to wake up my wife by ringing the door-bell, but she was fast asleep, so I got a ladder from the shed in the g

36、arden, put it against the wall, and began climbing towards the bedroom window. I was almost there when a sarcastic voice below said,' I don't think the windows need cleaning at this time of the night.' I looked down and nearly fell off the ladder when I saw a policeman. 44、为国有独资公司,主要负责组团规划、建设等工作。 1.1.3 项目的主管部门 重庆市北碚区人民政府。 1.1.4 项目拟建地区和地点 中环快速干道三溪口立交桥工程位于蔡家组团D标准分区,于中环线和渝合高速公路相交处,通过对老三溪口立交桥进行拓展、改建,连接中环线与渝合高速公路;H区经济适用房工程位于蔡家组团H标准分区,规划地块面积275亩,规划地块建设用地面积约200亩,包括H04-02/01、H05-01/01、H10-02/01和H11-01/01 四个地块。在邻近中环线的南侧,西邻西环主干道,在该地块的西侧为规划建设的观音岩公园,东南侧为行政办公区;N区土地整治项目位于蔡家组团

48、的主要内容包括项目的背景和建设的必要性、需求预测和拟建规模、工程建设技术方案、环境保护、机构组织和人力资源配置、实施进度、投资估算和资金筹措、社会及经济效益评价等。 1.2 可行性研究结论 蔡家组团城市建设总项目是经过反复论证并报重庆市政府和国家有关部委审批、立项的重点区域开发、建设工程,是一个已经完成了很多建设项目并有大量业主进入的在建工程,本研究报告所涉及的项目——“蔡家组团中环快速干道三溪口立交桥、H区经济适用房和N区土地整治建设项目”只是总项目中的一部分。由于蔡家组团城市建设总项目中的各个子项目之间存在不可分性,市场的供给、需求之间存在不可分性,所以,“蔡家组团中环快速干道三溪口

49、立交桥、H区经济适用房和N区土地整治建设项目”,对于整个蔡家组团按规划建设,对于重庆主城北扩战略的实施和“主城半小时畅通工程”的实现,对于北碚和重庆市区域经济发展等都具有十分重大的现实意义。项目建设符合重庆市和国家有关政策的要求,符合蔡家组团建设总体规划的要求;项目的工程技术方案、环境保护方案、组织和人力资源配置方案、实施进度方案设计合理。经投资估算、财务预测和社会经济效益分析,项目总投资69039.66万元,总收入81282.49万元,税金11046.84万元,利润8512.9万元,财务内部收益率23.52%,投资回收期0.98年,项目在社会经济效益上具有可行性;项目的风险小,抗市场干扰能力
