Benjamin Giroux, a 10-year-old boy with autism ( 孤独症), came home from school on April 7 more excited than ever. To celebrate National Poetry Month, his fifth-grade teacher asked her students to write a poem about themselves, beginning every sentence with ”I”.
Benjamin couldn’t wait to start writing, so he sat down and didn’t look up until he finished. He showed the poem to his parents, who immediately got choked up.
“I am odd（奇怪的），I am new,＂ Benjamin wrote in the poem．“I wonder if you are too. I hear voices in the air. I see you don’t and that’s not fair. I feel like a boy in outer space, I touch the stars and feel out of place.”
" At first, we felt hurt that he feels lonely, misunderstood and odd at school," Giroux said. "As the poem went on, we realized that he understands that he's odd and that so is everyone else in their own way. This is what Ben wants everyone to know.”
Benjamin was supposed to read his poem aloud to the class the following day, but upon waking up that morning, he refused to go to school and stayed home. He didn’t think his poem was any good, so his dad posted it to Facebook in hopes of getting some encouraging ments from family and friends. When the National Autism Association saw the poem, they posted it to their page, where thousands of strangers shared how much the poem inspired them. The family has heard from hundreds of parents thanking Benjamin for showing how their own kids may be feeling at school.

A new phone app uses vibrations (振动) from smart phones lo warn people of earthquakes.
The phone app recognizes sudden shaking of the earth’s surface through sensors（传感器） in smart phones．The new app is called MyShake. It is the work of four researchers at the University of California, Berkeley. They said they created a worldwide warning system that would inform people and give them time to prepare. The MyShake app Is available only for Android phones.
Smart phones are equipped with accelerometers. These instruments measure movement, like that of a car or an airplane. They can also measure the shaking of a machine, building or other structures.
Accelerometers are used in activity trackers and apps that count steps or other exercise. They are also used in global positioning system apps, also called GPS.
MyShake uses phone accelerometers to measure earthquake activity. It has been programmed to know the difference between normal activity and earthquake movement. The software developers say their app is right93 percent of the time. A smart phone sends earthquake information to the app developers. If the developers receive a lot of notice from one area, it recognises that an earthquake may be taking place or will take place soon. Using information sent from the app, the network then judges the location and strength of the earthquake in real time. MyShake can record magnitude 5.0 earthquakes at distances of I0 kilometers or less. MyShake uses very little power, according to its developers. Only when earthquake activity is sensed by the app does it bee active and sends data to the network.
The app works best when your phone is resting on a smooth surface, like a table.
The app also shows ways to stay safer during an earthquake. The developers say it will bee more effective as more people use it.

Throughout history, people living near any sea coast have relied on fish as an important food.
