reminder n. 提醒物
remind / remember / recall / call up 的辨析:
remind 指某人或某事使主人公”联想起” 另外的人或事,后面只能接人作宾语;
remember 主要表示还记得或记住过去发生的事情,指事情自然在脑海里出现;与can 连用时,其所接宾语和意义与recall基本一致；
recall 指有意识地回忆、回想，强调其动作包含有意识的努力或意志，常与can连用；
call up 表示使回忆起某事的意思，后面一般跟回忆起的内容作宾语。

4. lack vi.& vt. 缺乏;没有 n. 缺乏; 短缺的东西
lack 做动词时, 不用被动语态 lack (for) sth.
for lack of … 由于短缺……
be short of … 缺少
5. in one thousand year’s time 一千年后 (用于将来时)
“ in + 段时间” = “段时间+ later” “多少时间后” 用于将来时
而 “ after +段时间” = “段时间+ later” 也表示多少时间后,但只能用于过去时。

6. make notes = take notes 做笔记
7. as a result “因此” 逗号隔开,放句首. (相当于 therefore )

The instant (that)… = Instantly… “一…….就……” 可引导时间状语从句

二、 重要句子：
1. Worried about the journey, I was nervous and unsettled for the first few days.
担心旅途的情况,起初几天我觉得紧张不舒适。
Exhausted ， I slid into the bed and fell fast asleep.
感到疲倦了，我偷偷爬上床很快就入睡了。
在此，形容词作状语，相当于原因状语从句。= As I was worried about the journey/ As I was exhausted . 形容词也可作伴随状语，如：
She returned home, unhappy. He spent the whole day in the wind and snow, cold and hungry.
2. I got lost when I reach what looks like a large market.
当我们到达一个看上去象市场的地方,我真的迷路了.
e.g. People seem to value _______ they have lost.

3. The air seemed thin as though its combination of gases had little oxygen left.
as though/ if… 引导方式状语从句,通常要虚拟语气，与现在事实相反，谓语用did 或were； 与过去事实相反，谓语用过去完成时。

三、 语法：
1． 过去分词作状语： 可表时间、条件、原因、让步等，相当于一个状语从句。也可表方式或伴随，相当于并列句。
2． 与现在分词各形式的辨析使用：
现在分词作状语有：
Doing （与主句主语主谓关系、动作与主句的谓语同时或基本上同时发生。）
being done （与主句主语动宾关系、 表动作正在进行）
having done （与主句主语主谓关系、 动作先于主句的谓语动作。）
having been done （与主句主语动宾关系、动作先于主句的谓语动作。）
过去分词done ： 与主句主语动宾关系
e.g.1) Having said this, he spread some food and on the table ,and produced a bed from the floor.
2) Compared with China , Japan has a much smaller population.
3) Having been kept in prison for many years, he went mad.
4) Hearing the news, he got excited.
5) Being supported by two man, the old farmer came out of the burning house.
