As we become richer and richer, we are producing more and more rubbish. Our largest cities produce 760,000 tons of solid waste every day. The proper treatment of rubbish is beyond the financial resources (金融资源) of many countries. Some governments are spending as much as half of their money dealing with rubbish, bur still half of all the waste goes uncollected. Most of them come from the package or even the products themselves. They need years, even centuries to decompose if we don’t deal with them. How dangerous they will be!
The rubbish is more than just an environment problem --- it also influences national economics by disturbing the world market, discouraging tourism and slowing down industrial development.
Lots of rubbish also influences the look of our cities. A lot of rubbish is ugly and smelly. Things will get worse when it rains. But the most serious problem is open dumps. They are more than ugly things. Just because of them, ground water is being polluted, the air is being polluted and more disease is being spread.
Modern technology can make the problems of open dums less serious. But there are not enough facilities (设备). Some countries depend on most solid waste to produce energy, but burning solid waste is far more dangerous than open dumps.
Can’t we do something to stop it? Yes ,of course. We can deal with the growing rubbish by the “3Rs” means reducing the waste , reusing things that are being thrown away and recycling materials. If we take actions at once, we are sure to make the world more beautiful!

Who’s afraid of sharks ?Almost all of us are afraid of sharks .They are known to attack and kill ,and eat humans too. But there is one kind of shark that is friendly to humans and it can be seen in Donsol, Philippines .
According to studies made on different kinds of sharks ,there are about 10 deadly sharks in our ocean floor .They are :bull shark ,great white shark ,tiger shark ,ocean white tips ,short fin mako, grey reef ,sand tiger ,hammerhead ,blue shark and lemon shark .It is very surprising that whale sharks are not included in the list of deadly sharks .
The Donsol whale sharks are usually known in town as “Butanding”. It is a multi-dotted whale shark that measure anywhere from 15 to about 40 feet in length.
The “Butandings” as they are known here are gentle giants of the sea .They come to the waters of donsol from the months of October up to early May every year. They are a friendly and sociable creature that playfully interacts with humans who visit their chosen habitat in this coastal area of Donsol , Sorsogon.
Now,these gentle sharks of Donsol, Sorsogon have got the attention of Philippine president Gloria Arroyo and they have been protected by the locals .
