1.cut down

2.instead/instead of
这两个词都有“代替、取而代之的是、而不是”的意思。但是区别很大。
instead
副词，常用在句首或者句末承接下一个句子，表示前面的事情没做，而去做了后面的事情。

短语介词，后面要接名字、代词或者动名词。

4.harm\harmful\do harm to\be harmful to

6.put sth. to good use.

put sth to good use固定搭配，意思为“好好利用某物”，其主语一般是人。如：

同时，这个短语也有被动时态。be put good use意思为“某物得到了很好的利用”

7.cost\pay\spend\take

cost

pay
常用表示“花钱”，但主语是人，且要和for搭配。常见句型为：
Sb pays +钱数+ for sth
spend
可以表示“花时间”，也可以表示“花钱”，主语是人。常见的搭配为：
Sb spend + 钱数or时间 on sth/ (in) doing sth
take
常用语表时间，且句型多为固定搭配It takes sb +时间+ to do sth.
例子：
1、The book cost me 50 yuan.
2、I paid 10 dollar for my milk.
3、Jack spent 6 hours playing computer games last night.
4、It took me 3 days to prepare for the exam.
