　　Winning Over Jiang Wei by a Clever Stratagem
　　This is a story from the novel Three Kingdoms. Jiang Wei was adept with both pen andsword. He was not only a man of intelligence and bravery， but also a man of resources andastuteness. Zhuge Liang wanted to win Jiang Wei over to be his assistant. When he learnedthat Jiang Wei was a filial son whose mother was living in Jicheng City， he devised a plan to winhim over. He ordered Wei Yan to attack Jicheng City by bluffing and blustering. As soon asJiang Wei heard the news， he immediately led the troops to Jicheng City to save hismother.Zhuge Liang sent captured-general Xiahou Mao to Jicheng City to persuade Jiang Weito surrender. When Xiahou Mao was only halfway there， he was told by people that Jiang Weihad already surrendered to the Shu State. Therefore Xiahou Mao had to go to Tianshuiguan. Hecame to the city of Tianshuiguan about Jiang Wei's surrender. In the middle of the night，Zhuge Liang asked somebody to dress up as Jiang Wei and attack Tianshuiguan. This made theofficers and soldiers in the dity really believe that Jiang Wei's surrender to Shu State was true.
　　Jiang Wei tried every possible means to protect Jicheng City， although he lacked thenecessary army provisions. One day Jiang Wei led his soldiers to seize army provisions. Thesoldiers of the Shu State took advantage of this and seized the city. Since Jiang Wei had lostthe city， he could only run to Tianshuiguan. The generals and soldiers wouldn't let him into thecity， becarse they mistakenly believed that he surrendered to the enemy. Jiang Wei had to gooff into the wilderness. He went less than a few kilometers before Zhuge Liang came along in acarriage and his troops encircled Jiang Wei. Realizing he was trapped， he surrendered to ZhugeLiang.

　　守卫天水郡的魏国大将姜维，文武双全智有勇有谋。诸葛亮想收姜维为自己的助手。他得知姜维是个孝子，其母住在冀城，便想出一条计策：命魏延虚张声势打冀城，姜维得知消息，便请兵杀回冀城救母。诸葛亮又派俘将夏侯杼木带兵前往冀城劝姜维投降。夏侯懋走到半路，听老百姓说姜维已献城降蜀，他只好往天水郡来。夏侯懋进城，把姜维已投降蜀兵的消息告诉了天水郡守城官兵。深夜，诸葛亮让人假扮姜维打天水郡。守城官兵更认定姜维降蜀是事实了。
　　姜维苦守冀城，粮草缺乏。一日带兵劫粮，蜀兵乘虚取冀城。姜维失城只好向天水郡逃去。天水郡众将，误认姜维已经投降，不准他进城。姜维无奈落荒而去。走不到数里，诸葛亮乘车而出，姜维见自己陷入重重包围之中，便下马投降了诸葛亮。

　　Zhuge Liang Pays a Mourning Call
　　This is a story from Three Kingdoms. Zhou Yu， chief commander of Wu， Was talentedand proficient in strategies and tactics but was narrow-minded and intolerant of others. Hediscussed with Zhuge Liang plans to conquer Cao Cao while simultaneously pondering how tomurder Zhuge Liang. Zhou Yu had been wounded by a poisonous arrow when he wasattacking Nanjun. Zhou's wound burst when he learned that Zhuge Liang had already takenover Nanjun， Jingzhou and Xiangyang. Zhou Yu， with a healing wound， racked his brainsfor ways to capture Jingzhou. His strategies， however， were all seen through by Zhuge Liangwho even sent him a mocking message. Zhou Yu was vexed again. “Since You(the Heaven)made me， Zhou Yu， why did You make Zhuge Liang too?” Zhou Yu grudgingly asked beforehe took his last breath.
　　Learning of Zhou Yu's demise， Zhuge Liang decided to go to pay respects. Fearing thatZhuge Liang might be murdered， Liu Bei send Zhao Yun with 500warriors to protect him.Before Zhou Yu's coffin， Zhuge Liang personally offered libation， kneeled on the ground，and read his eulogy. Tears of grief gushed forth from Zhuge Liang. All the generals from Wuwere moved. When Lu Su saw Zhuge Liang was in such grievance， he said to himself， “ZhouLiang was narrow-minded and he brought on his own death.”

　　东吴大都督周瑜，精通兵法，才智超群，只是肚量狭小，不能容人。他和诸葛亮共商破曹大计，可又想加害诸葛亮。周瑜攻打南郡时，曾身中毒箭。当诸葛亮趁乱用计先取南郡、荆州、襄阳后，周瑜一气之下箭伤复发。病中的周瑜仍想智取荆州，均被诸葛亮识破。周瑜一气再气，在“既生瑜，何生亮”的怨恨声中死去。
　　诸葛亮得知周瑜的死讯，决定前去吊唁。刘备怕诸葛亮被害，派赵云带五百军士保护。在周瑜柩前，诸葛亮亲自奠酒，跪在地上读祭文，泪如泉涌，悲痛不已，众将均被感动。鲁萧见诸葛亮如此悲痛，自言自语地说：“周瑜肚量狭小，自取灭亡。”

　　This is a story from Three Kingdoms. Huang Zhong， a veteran in the army of Shu， wasone of its top five generals. Zhang He under Cao Cao had suffered one defeat after another.Cao Hong gave him a 5，000-strong army to attack Jiameng Pass. When Liu Bei learned this，he consulted with Zhuge Liang， his military advisor. Zhuge Liang said： “Zhang He is adistinguished general of Cao Cao. Only Zhang Fei could defeat him.” This irritated veteranHuang Zhong. Huang shouted： “Advisor has looked down upon me. I will get his head off andoffer it to you.” Zhuge Liang prodded Huang again by saying， “Though you are valiant， I amafraid you are not Zhang He's match because you are too old.” When Huang Zhong heardthis， his gray hair angrily stood on end. He said， “Old as I am， I am able to open two bowsand am full of vitality.” Huang went down and got a big sword off the rack and performed withit. He took two hard bows off the wall and pulled them broken. Then Zhuge Liang said： “If yougo ，whom would you like to be your assistant?” Huang Zhong replied， “Veteran Yan Yan. Ifthe two of us can not defeat Zhang He， my gray-haired bead is yours.” Liu Bei and ZhugeLiang were very pleased. The veteran generals were ordered to fight Zhang He. When HuangZhong and Yan Yan got to Jiameng Pass， they laid a trap to defeat Zhang He. Then they usedskillful tactics to take over Tiandang Mountain， the granary of Cao Cao's army. Later， theycaptured Dingjun Mountain. They reported back to Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang declaring a completevictory.

　　黄忠是蜀军中有名的老将。曹将张郃在连吃败仗的情况下，曹洪又给他五千人马叫他攻打葭萌关。刘备得知，与军师集众商议对策。诸葛亮说：“ 张郃是曹操手下名将，要想取胜只有张飞才行。”诸葛亮一句话，激怒了老将黄忠，只见他大声喊道：“军师太小看人了，我黄忠愿取张郃首级，献于军师帐下。” 诸葛亮再激道：“你虽然很勇敢，但年纪太大了，恐怕不是张郃的对手。”黄忠听了，气的白发倒竖说：“我虽然老了，但两臂能开三石之弓，浑身还有千斤之力。 ”只见黄忠大步走下堂，取下架上大刀，舞动如飞，拿下墙上硬弓，一连拉断两张。诸葛亮说：“将军要去，谁做你的副将。”黄忠说：“老将严颜。如果我俩不能取胜，我愿献上这颗白头。”刘备、诸葛亮大喜。命二人带兵与张郃交战。黄忠、严颜到了葭萌关，先用计打败张郃，又用智夺取了曹操的屯粮重地天荡山。而后又攻下定军山，果然大获全胜而归。
