I have never learned as much math in my life as I did last year. It was because of Ms. Vacirca 51 I truly understood what I was learning. It might not seem 52 a big deal to some, but to me it is. I have never met a woman so caring (有爱心的) and so determined to teach her 53 . I never really wanted to work for good 54 in math class. She always wanted to know what was going on in my (and everyone else’s) life, and she was always looking out for everyone’s best interest. Ms. Vacirca is a sweet woman with a sense of 64 that you just have to laugh at. When regents (校董,校务委员) were approaching, she was more concerned than ever about everyone doing well. Many of her precious students 65 high, and so she 66 the same from us. Day after day there were students in the classroom 67 problems. When it was time for our big test, I knew I was ready. I walked out of that test with my head 68 . I knew that I was a 69 and Ms. Vacirca had made me that way. I appreciated all the hard work that she put into helping me and my fellow students. Then, mark your answers by blackening the corresponding letters on the Answer Sheet with your pencil. Questions 71-75 are based on the following passage: Passage 1 Do you forget to turn off the lights and heaters (暖气设备) when you go out of a room? In 2040 it will not matter. They will turn themselves off and on again when you return. You will choose the temperature for each room, the lighting and the humidity (湿度). A sensor (传感器) will detect the presence of a human (and, with luck, ignore the dog!) and turn the systems on, and when the humans leave 《大学英语》样题 第4页(共页) it will turn them off again. The sensors will work through the central home computer, and they will do much more than just turn the fires and lights on and off for you. They will detect faulty electrical appliances, plugs or switches, isolate them so that they cannot harm anyone, and then warn you that they need repair. They will detect fire and if you are out of the house, the computer will call the fire brigade (消防队). It will also call the police should the sensors detect an intruder. This will not be too difficult because the locks on the outside doors will be electronic. You will open them using your personal card--the one you use for shopping—maybe using a number known only to you. It will be impossible to lose the key, and a housebreaker will have to tamper (拨弄) with the lock or with a window. It is not very difficult to make such tampering send a signal to the computer. The computer will be more than a fireman-policeman-servant. it will be an entertainer, and most of your entertainment (娱乐) will come right into your home. It does now, of course but by 2040 “entertainment” will mean much more. For one thing, you will be able to take part actively, rather than just watching... 71. The author intends to tell us that . A. in 2040 we will live without the lights and heaters B. in 2040 we will use much more lights and heaters C. in 2040 there will be no switches of lights and heaters D. in 2040 lights and heaters will be on and off automatically 72. Which of the following statements is NOT true? A. The sensor is multi-functional. B. Without a computer, the sensor can not do much. C. The sensor will detect fire and make an emergency call. D. You can be taken for an intruder if you tamper with the lock or with a window. 73. According to the author, in 2040, new technology . A. will free us from the keys we use today B. will turn everything into sensors C. will make the locks out of date D. will eliminate all crimes 74. Thanks to computers, in 2040 people . A. will have no entertainment outside B. will replace TV with computers C. will be controlled by computers D. will have more fun at home 75. The best title for the passage might be . A. Sensors and Computers B. Life at Home in the Year 2040 C. The Development of Science and Technology D. Lights and Heaters in the Year 2040 Questions 76-80 are based on the following passage: Passage 2 At the University of Kansas art museum, scientists tested the effect of different colored walls on two groups of visitors to an exhibit of paintings. For the first group the room was painted white; for the second, dark brown. Movement of each group was followed by an electrical equipment under the carpet. The experiment showed that those who entered the dark brown walked more quickly, covered more area, and spent less time in the room than people in the white one. Dark brown made people more active, but the activity ended sooner. Not only the choice of colors but also the general appearance of a room affects those inside. Another experiment presented people with 《大学英语》样题 第5页(共页) photographs of faces whose energy was to be commented. Three groups of people were used; each was shown the same photos, but each group was in an ordinary room—a nice office. The third was in a tastefully designed living room with carpeting.
