Describe a long journey you enjoyed.
You should say
where you went
when and why you went there
what landscapes you saw
and explain why this was such an unforgettable trip.
A long journey
One journey I went on that was very long indeed was my trip around Europe last summer, travelling by train.
I went for a whole month, going all around Europe from my home country of England east until I got to Eastern Europe, and then back in a loop to Italy. I went so I could see the rich history and culture of the continent, which was practically on my doorstep. I felt it was high time I embarked on a long trip to experience some more of the world and its people.
Travelling by train I kept myself occupied by looking out of the window at the landscapes as they flashed by. The countryside was mostly fields, but once I got to the Alps then it became beautiful. There were towering cliffs of rocks with fast-flowing rivers cutting between valley walls. I could even see a castle on one of the hillsides. Each city I visited brought a new style of architecture and type of person on the street. I saw medieval cottages, baroque cathedrals and shabby, modern apartment blocks. The landscape varied with each country I came to.
I’ll never forget this trip because it was the first time I was travelling without a home base. I went with a good friend and we spent a lot of time together. We had memorable conversations on the long train journeys about live, society, religion... all very deep stuff. I also had the chance to see some of the world’s most famous sights like the Eiffel Tower and the Dom cathedral in Cologne. It was fascinating waking up on a moving train knowing that the next stop I got off at was going to present me with a whole new country with many surprises. It was a unique experience.

When talking about handicrafts, I’d like to share with you my experience of making paper-cut. Paper-cut is a traditional folk art in China and it’s been very popular in some ruralareas. It is paper cut into different shapes and patterns and then pasted on windows as decorations on festive occasions, such as the Spring Festival or a Wedding ceremony. I first learned to make paper- cut in primary school when making paper-cut was part of the extracurricularactivities. The process isn’t very complicated and doesn’t take long. Well, you need a piece of red-coloured paper, a pair of scissors and a pencil. Second, draw a certain pattern or write down some Chinese characters, such as “XI, OR FU ”that represent the auspiciousnessin our culture on the folded paper. Then use the scissors to cut the paper according to the pattern. When you open it up.Ta-da, you will find out a very beautiful pattern in the centre is right in front of your eyes. Finally , paste the pattern of “FU or XI” to the front-door upside down, which means the fortuneand bliss are coming. It is a very good practice for creativityand hands-on skills.

范文
Last year, I moved to a new community and met my warm-hearted neighbor Linda. She is not that attractive in terms of appearance, but she is really adorable. She has a round face with a tiny mouth and sparkling eyes. She introduced herself to me and helped me to move in.
She is always doing nice things for us and she is so considerate. If my family are gone for a vacation she will keeps an eye on my house, getting my mail and watering my plants. I have lived in the new apartment for a year and Linda is not only my good neighbor but also a friend who I can trust and depend on. I think being on good terms with neighbors can make the area a nicer and more comfortable place to live. You can’t imagine how important a wonderful neighborhood is. Actually, with a good neighborhood we can live a happy life with good morals and values. However, if we are continually exposed to negative things in the neighborhood then it will have an effect on our mood. Being a neighbor like Linda will make the community safe and happy, like a family.

Times need heroes, and heroes stand out. Franklin Roosevelt is just a hero of the times. Well known for his unprecedented 13 years as the President of U. S. , he is regarded as a savior of America. However, it is not his brilliant achievements that attract me. What I really admire are some qualities shining in his whole life such as fortitude, courage and also his amiability.
His early time, I mean before his forties, was smooth. He was born rich and had a happy marriage. After graduating from Harvard, he served in the Navy. At that time, he had already shown his remarkable leadership and since his uncle was a President, he would surely enter the political arena. But everything changed when he was 39. Healthy and strong as he was, he was attacked by polio after swimming, which caused the life long deformity in his legs. It was extremely hard for this ambitious man to face the misfortune. He was, of course, in a bad mood and wanted to give up all his dreams at first. Then, after careful thinking, he finally decided to bestir himself. He was not a man easy to surrender. Again he took part in political activities and, at the same time, practiced standing up and then walking with a stick. Eventually this brave man won the battle against fate. He became the only disabled President in American history and unprecedentedly served four terms. All should be attributed to his fortitude.
"The only thing we fear is fear itself." This famous saying now has spread all over the world and encouraged lots of people. Roosevelt first said it, and as a great leader, he made all his people believe it. He practiced what he preached for he was surely a courageous person challenging the tradition. He formulated new policies to help his nation out of the Depression. He declared war against Fascists though most of the Congressmen opposed him at that time. All proved that he was right for his courage was not rash but based on careful thinking. "A leader is one who dares to dream, and then, dares to achieve."
He was great, but not great in appearance. He looked like a kind grandpa at the first sight. He initiated the fireside chat to express his ideas and explain his policies in a relaxed atmosphere on radio. He always smiled sincerely when speaking and listening. These didn’t lower his prestige but made him amiable and welcome.
He is surely not a perfect man no one can be perfect. Every age has its hero in the forefront, just like Franklin Roosevelt, a man I admire.

Well, one particularly unpleasant experience that sticks in my memory was the time I went to Huangshan with my mum and brother, which must have been about 2 or 3 years ago, when my mum came over to visit me in Hangzhou. We had decided to go travelling to Huangshan as none of us had been there before, and we’d heard a lot of great things about it.
And basically what happened was that we got caught in a big storm, which seemed to spring up out of nowhere, because one minute it was pretty sunny, and the next it was, quite literally, pouring down with rain, and I mean, REALLY chucking it down!
What didn’t help us was the fact that, at the time the storm hit, we were right on top of a mountain, and because we hadn’t checked the weather forecast, we didn’t have any umbrellas with us, so we got absolutely soaked!
And the worst thing was, when we reached the cable car to get down the mountain, we were told that it had closed early for safety reasons, coz there were some flashes of lightening, and this apparently made the cable car unsafe to go in.
So we ended up having no choice but to walk down the mountain instead, and because it was still raining when we got to the bottom, we couldn’t find a single free taxi. So there we were, completely drenched and utterly exhausted, stuck in the middle of nowhere.
Thankfully, though, after what seemed like an eternity, a minivan finally pulled up and gave us a lift back to where we were staying, which was a huge relief. I honestly don’t know what we would have done if it hadn’t come, because it was getting pretty dark and most people had already left the mountains, so thank goodness it came!
And looking back on it now, I would say I actually gained quite a lot from this experience, as it’s really kind of taught me to appreciate the times when I do have easy access to transportation, which is most of the time.
So yeah, that’s pretty much it, and I hope the story wasn’t too boring!

I’m going to talk about my father because he has been a major influence in my life.
My father was always a good role model for me as I was growing up. He’s hard-working, patient and understanding; he’s also got a good sense of humour and seems to get on well with everybody. Hopefully I’ve inherited some of these traits.
I admire my father because I think he brought me and my brothers/sisters up well; he was quite strict but always fair, and he has always been someone I can turn to for advice. I think my father set a good example by working hard and having a positive outlook on life. I remember that he used to leave for work early and come home quite late, but he always made time for me and my brothers/sisters.

范文
I want to talk about one student I know with an impressive academic performance. We were in the same class back in high school and we were desk mates for a whole semester. Stunning might it be, she is currently studying her PHD's degree in Cornell.
She is not that attractive in terms of appearance, but she is really adorable. She has a round face with a tiny mouth and sparkling eyes.
As for the personality, she is very sensitive and has a huge interest towards Chinese literature. She used to keep diary in high school and sometimes she shared her thoughts with me, which I felt quite inspiring. She is also very sociable and gets along pretty well with other people.
As far as I'm considered, her intelligence contributes mainly to her good performance in studies. I can still recall that every time we were doing some complex problems she could always figure out the best solution in the shortest time. On top of that, I believe that her own conscientiousness and persistent hard work have also played an essential part in her high scores.

If I had a day off, I won’t do anything special or taking any adventures. I just want to spend the whole day with my family. And I think go to a park with a big lake is a good choice. Because this is a free way to get some outdoors time with my family, and maybe even some exercise too. For example, I think I will bring a kite or bike there. Also I want to rent a small boat and go out fishing.
