A survey about the writing difficulties in English has been carried out among the 200 students in Grade One in my school recently. The result is as follows.
The biggest problem with English writing is grammar, which makes 62% of the students want to give it up. 57% don’t know what to write while 56% feel they are in great need of a larger vocabulary. Because we are Chinese students, we have difficulty in thinking in English, which causes 44% to write English articles in a Chinese style. 37% of the students have trouble in organizing sentences and paragraphs and they need help with the structure of English articles.
Writing is an important skill that we students should master. In my opinion, we need to think in English first. Do not stop reading. Making reading one of our hobbies can be a great help. Moreover, listen to and speak with native speakers as much as possible.
